January 26, 1972 Gazette l-C Two Runways Proposed at AFA The Department of the Air Force has proposed that two runways to be established at the Air Force Academy so that its pilot cadet pilot training program can be moved from Peterson Field to the Academy grounds. The proposal calls for establishing a second north south runway, a new east. west runway and abandoning the existing east-west runway. McBeth Funeral Is Today Funeral services were held today for Joseph L. McBeth of Canon City who died Saturday in a Canon City nursing home where he had lived for the past one and one-half years. He was a retired laborer and Canon City resident for 50 years and was 79 years old. Born June 3. 1892, in Beloit.

he had lived in Canon City since moving there from Kansas in 1922. Mr. McBeth married Rena Suhler McBeth July 26. 1916, in Medicine Lodge, Kan. She died in 1945.

A daughter, Mrs. Margaret Mastellar died Nov. 2, 1968. Survivors include four sons and three daughters. Joseph E.

McBeth of Canon City, James R. McBeth of Fort Morgan, John L. McBeth of Pueblo, Walter McBeth of West Fargo, N.D.; Mrs. Ida Bittner and Mrs. P.eulah Booker, both of Pueblo, Mrs.

Arvilla Miller of Florence: 25 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Jim W. McBeth of Ellinwood, Andy McBeth of Grants Pass, Mrs. Viola Showalter of Little Rock, Mrs. Kate Haas of Sharon, and several nieces and nephews.

The Air Force now has 39 T-41 aircrafts in its pilot training program. The planes are housed at Peterson Field and taken to the academy only when they are needed for flight training. Mrs. Maggie Asher Services Thursday Funeral services for Mrs.

Maggie S. Asher will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Memories Mortuary. The Rev. Fred Landess will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Robert Asher, Roy Asher, Harold E. Asher, Jimmie Asher, Cliff John Gonzales serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Asher died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Sept.

11, 1893, in White Cloud, and was married Jan. 6, 1910, in Ruelo, to William Robert Asher who died in 1935. She had lived here since 1926. She is survived by a son, James Asher of Security; two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Woodruff and Mrs.

Mary Calkins of Colorado Springs; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother, Eiden Simmons of Othello, Wash.
