The shapely contour of these new swlmsuits Is achieved through expert handling of the wool knit from which they are cut. Both suits have inner bras. Sheath (left) is trimmed with braid which extends to form straps. Maillot in embossed, brocade-type pattern (right) is trimmed in white wool knit. Broad straps are elasticized to stay on the shoulders In the water.—By GAILE DUGAS, NEA Women's Editor. Swim Suits Set For Big Splash The newest swimsuits reflect oil the 1959 fashion excitement i n two definite and distinctive silhouettes. Sleek . . . relaxed . . . these two words accurately describe the suits you'll be seeing and wearing now-through-hot weather! The sleek suit, usually in clas- ticized or knit fabric, clings to every curve revenlingly. The relaxed suit, on the other hand, is just what its name implies — an adaptation of the loose lint and lilouson to create a completely relaxed look. In the sleek or torso suit, the feeling is for more and more cover-up: higher necklines, higher underarms. Again the maillot vies in popularity with the littlc- boy leg treatment. In the softer versions, you can choose between a definite blouse effect over tight fitting pants, suits with low placed belts for hip interest, or loose fitting suits softly belted at the natural waistline. While background prints of every description lead in the color sweepstakes. Sharply etched black and white in brilliant floral effect also rate high. Green scores, alone or combined with blues and purples. Hot pink and orange continue strong while lavender keynotes a new trend to pastels. Cottons, elasticized or cut straight lead in every style, with cotton knits used most imaginatively in softly detailed suits.
