There was received by her file of the Bslfast News-Letter" the 9th of March, inclusive but these papers contain London Intelligence to the 3d only, and as the most profound tranquility prevails in Ireland, they furnish nothmg pohti- cally interesting. We have a few additional articles of Eng news, from London papers to the 3rd March, received at New-York but they an very interesting the fears and conjee tures respecting the illness ot the king appear have lessened those about the threatened nvasion, of which we have nothing now tc communicate. Indeed it is reasonable enough that great anxiety should prevail on the re currence of the king's malady at such a cri for should it terminate in death thert may be such changes both of domestic ajaci foreign relations as will essentially promote the happiness of the nation, if his illness shah protracted the anxiety will be encreased Of the actual state of the disorder of the monch it is very evident no accurate injfor mation had been given, nay from the facts before us we may well doubt whether he was was not dead at the date of our last ad vices the physicians report he is very ill Parliament Mr. Addington assures he is able to transact business, thus we cannot believe either.

In this state of uncertainty the leading members of the whig intere had conceived it necessary to demand a true statement, for- which purpose a motion had been prepared by Mr Grey the result of the enquiry could not be known on the od ult. but papers by the next vessel will inform. The Addington administration conducts the attairs of the nation just as its members please, the Prince, of friends, Fox and the hig members, wish to scrutinise with the hope of changing the ministry and placing the country tinder themselves the Grenville faction, collected in Parliament in all its force, watch the movements of both, and appear anxious to court the favour of the whig interest for the purpose of displacing Addington, Hawkesbury that they might again shared in the government. In the mean while the people are kept in utter darkness, they bear all the burdens of a highly expensive warfare without obtaining a single benefit, on the contrary experience present misfortuqe, and have nearly a certainty of final disaster. The last accounts cpmprise much rumour respecting the internal affairs of France we are told of insurrections in the capital and in the departments, but such stories have so often been circulatea as correct and proved untme, that we shall not credit those now I i given they are liKe tne prediction ot our federalists about the downtal of churches ana certain war with England if Jeftersou were elected, neither of which were ever dreamt of but by themselves.

Of the hostile appearance of the continen tal or northern powers we no longer hear any ning it seems France remains in perfect Harmony with Denmark though former English accounts assured they were about to go to war: France is also in. perfect amity with and with Austria and we are strengthened in our belief that if any of them take up arms it will not be against France, hut to aggrandize on the territories of weaker powers 1 he tew articles we have seen, which treat of the impending invasion, continue to repre sent the. preparations as immense much ac nvity was employed building and equip ping ship of the line, of which description of vesselsthe torce the ports ot Brest, Tou- ioh, and in the Texel was very respectable It does not appear probable that the Toulon. rieet had sailed- In the East Indies the British continue cheir encroachments on the territories of the native powers, they loment disturbances among uu chiefs and then under pretence of umpirage plunder both they unkertake to nrtertere in all the attairs of those powers which yet remain" Lnderrcndeat, and if opposed either connive at the assassination of the chief that they may raise a minion of their own in his' or lay waste the territories or add them to their already greatly extensive provinces. In Ceylon the British have met with a disaster suited to their ambition and tyranny the Candians finding the system pursued on the continent against Tip- poo and others about to be adopted against their Country, pursued that course of defence best suited to their comparative weakness, and although their cruelty appears consider able to the man of feeling it is somewhat excusable when its provocations are considered Aurora.

Arthur of Wayne county, Was convicted of pas-sing conn dollars, knowing them to be such, and sentenced to months imprisonment, and to a fine ot one hundred pounds.

At Morgan Superior Court, in March, William Merrel, late of Rowan county 'was convicted of, andH; sentenced to. death for stealing a ne Mhp man. A petition irom sunury citizens of Morgan and Salisbury districts has been presented to the' Governor, praying for a pardon, and stating this to have been a first offence. The prayer of the petitioners has not been complied with but the execution of the criminal, which was have taken plac on the 27th inst. postponed till the first of June in order, probably to ascertain more correctly his general character He has a wife and several children.

At Salisbury Superior Court, we are concerned to" state, three persons were condemned to die, viz. Willis Wadkins and Robert Akins, for and Catharine Lim- bpch for murdring heiuinfant child immediately after its birlh. Had not Wadkins been convicted, there was a demand for him from the Executive Virginia and being, it is supposed, an old offender, it is probable no application will be made for executive clemency his behalf. Akins and the woman, on strong petitions and recommendations, have been pardoned by the Governor. In favour of the former, it was represented, both by citizens of Guilford, where he was raised, and of Pendleton district, Si Carolina, where he has since lived, that he- always supported good character, -and though the stolen horse was found in his possession, as ho positive proof was adduced a- gainst him, and as he was travelling oti the main road in the us'jmi way, he might have purchased him of some unknown person, as he said he did.

Though the proof against the woman vas not positive, no doubt was entertained 'of her guilt but the whole of the Grand Jury, who found the itidi'ctrrient against her, and eleven of the travefse jury who convicted her, as well as many other re-spectablecitizeris, recommended her to mercy, on account of her pitiable si tuationi having been deserted by her husband several years ago (said to be now an officer in the U. States army) with three children, which she had maintained by, her own hand, and from her having perpetrated the act probably from a momentary impulse occasioned by a fear of encountering want or public shame. In addition to these circumstances, her connections were respectable. It is stated that Wadkins, who is left for execution, has knowledge of a confederation of forgers and circulates of false and counterfeit monev, which he is willing to impart for the oenentot me puoiic. vv netner any advantage can, with propriety be de rived front his information, is not yet known; Except his statements can be supported by other evidence, doubtless it cannot.

Information has been received from New-Orleans, that several attempts have been recently made, to set fire to that city. Gov. Claiborne has issued a proclamation offering a reward of 500 dollars for the detection of the incendiaries, The Governor has also, by his proclamation of the 21st ult. offered a pardon to all absent slaves who shall return within two months from that date, provided ihey are charged with no other crime inan runnine awav. On the night of the 16th of February, as Mr. Alexander M'Kee was descending the Missisippi in a Kentucky boat, while laying to near the Iron banks, she took fire in his absence, and before he could render any assistance was entirely consumed, his wife and three children were unhappy victims to the flames. Mr. M'Kee had embarked all his property for the purpose of settling in Natchez. The Republicans of Connecticut have, as usual, addressed the People on their approaching general election, offering a list of Republican candidates for office.

The federalists (they state) hold all the important offices in the gift of the freemen, and the men in place tell the people that rum and disbrder will be the if they should be removed. We know' not how soon you will dare to try the experiment, but we can state expressly thej leading conse quences which would follow a change ot men. We should have a convention of -the people, who will form the constitution in place of our old charter. This constitution ill separate the legislative, executive and judicial powers of government, so that seven lawyers incur council shall not have the hole weight of it on their shoulders. It will be proved for the district of the state, so that freemen shall know the man for whom they vote It will decide on the qualitica-tions of so that the legislator shall not have control over the election law, which is the only barrier of the ruled against the mcroach meats or the ruler, and it wili limit define those other powers, which have, since our revolution, been wholly unli mited.

The men now in place will not aid these rational objects and these will nevet be Compassed till you cs.tige the men in of-. nee. Elfect this change and your clergy would all return to that field; your courts would be less liable to undue influence your elections less exposed" to the eifect of false a-larms, and your state would be-restored to its due weight in the national scales. With fuil conviction that our object has been and is coirect, we have often exposed our Candida es and ourselves to gross abuse and crimination, and we shall conttrtufrtodo so, until we shall prevail and when that season shall arrive, we hope that our political concerns will be managed without arty pious fraud without any church influence; without any misrepresentation or unmaid intolerance and that the offices of the statr will never be bartered.for votes. Having long suffered from such things we -believe ourselves to have tearnt some lessons not tc be easily forgotten.
