Today we come to the most entertaining September football schedule in the history of the state. The October days are not yet with us, yet the dope Indicates that three Southwest conference teams may meet defeat this week-end. Waco Golfers Are Invited to Enter Annual Title Plav Two Matches Will Be Played Each Week; Cards Must Be Turned In by Sunday Evening The Waco County club's annual city-wide golf tournament qualifying rounds begin today and will continue Sunday, over an almost perfect golf course, which has been favored by the rain gods this summer, and which has been rounded into first class shape by hours of work. The Country club greens and fairways were generously praised by visiting golfers at the Invitation early in the summer, and it has been kep in the same fine shape since. All Players Invited Every player in the city, regardless of whether he is a member of the club, is invited to participate in the play.

An entrance fee of 1 which includes the entire tournament, is being charged to take care of the prizes. Starting this morning, the qualifying rounds will close Sunday evening. Players will not be allowed to start their qualifying Saturday and take another shot at the low figures Sunday if their Saturday score does not please them. Cards on qualifying rounds played today must be turned in today. Haraman Is Champion The players be required to play two matches each week until the tournament is completed.

Le- i land Hamman, who defeated Gus Robert Wilson. S. M. I Moreland in Memphis, and who qualified for a chance at the national amateur in Cincinnati, is defending champion. Russell Cox was runner-up last year.

This will make them more formidable than ever since Ty- i son always managers to have a strong running attack. Waco followers did not see much of the Tiger passing last week against Central, 1 but the Tigers had a lead and were protecting it. There is always much danger of getting a wild heave intercepted, and a team with only a one-touchdown lead will he wise to stick to its running attack That's just what the Tiger youngsters did Saturday night. of height with which to combat the Tech aerial Rather Tough Assignment Tonight's game will be a tough GUIDE ARMY GRID DESTINIES game assignment for the Tigers. It will bo harder than the Central contest because the boys will be playing away from home, most of them for the first time. This is always a handicap to a young team. We believe that the Tigers will win over the Tech crew, but the game is a toss-up as we see it. There is one certainty, it will be the best early season game Dallas football fans have seen in several seasons.

Tyson's lineup will be the same which started the game against Central last week. He did not need but one look to decide upon his best team. Wilson Lucas and Bill Denman will be the ends David Quill and Bill Clark are the tackles. Joe George and Arthur Brooks will draw the guard assignments. John Sidney Hewitt will be the center.

He is also a star kick-off man. Lawson Magruder will again be the quarterback. The halfbacks will be either Gordon Slade or Bill Saunders and Horace McKinney or Carl McGinty. All of them will see service. Pat Rutherford is the fullback.

He is the big boy who can do everything on the field an amazing manner for a lad playing his first year of high school football. What tory Would Mean The Tigers have a golden opportunity to make themselves the fa- vorite in district 11 this year in the game tonight. A victory will place them as the outstanding eleven of this section. Waco followers are enthusiastic about the new Tiger team and their hopes are that the Gold and White will once more wave supreme over high school football in Texas. This may be hoping too much, but the Bengals right now appear the equal of any team in this district.

He is the best blocker I have seen in the con- ferenee with the exception of Harrison Stafford of the Texas team of last Koch Also Optimistic Regarding the line Koch Is very optimistic. The Baylor line coach is of the opinion that the line from end to end. when taken both offensively and defensively, will be better than the line of 1930 which had Witcher and Koch as guards, Paradeaux at center And Charley Morris at tackle. Those four players were great stars, but that 1930 was fairly weak at both ends and one tackle.

It had very little reserve strength. The Bears of this season have four capable ends, four good tackles and five good guards, also three centers of some merit. Qf course, all are not of equal ability. Norton, the captain, is apt to be the best of all the guards for one quarter. He was a star for one quarter last year, but when he tired he had no help.

It will be different this year. In fact, Norton is apt to go in when the opposing guards begin to tire a. bit. Jennigs does not claim a championship machine. Neither does Koch, Both, however, firmly believe that in any game that you might men- tion at this time on the Bear sched- 1 ule.
