OKLAHOMA FEDERATIONIST I ANSWERS TO AN EDITORIAL 1 UNCLE SAM GIVES TO YOUNG STAGE HAND CLIMB THE LADDER totore although less ginger was in jected into the campaign than usual Tulsa's official printers' paper The Line (Wage says: The big event In printer circles is history the fortunate candidates have been duly congratu lated and those who went down in do teat have been sufficiently condoled to take away the sting that inevitably comes to those unsuccessful in their race for office" The following were the successful candidates: Conway Vice Hogan Siminermacher Executive Johnson NAMED BY PRESIDENT GAINES Moral support was unanimously voted to the building trades unions of Oklahoma City by the Typographical Union at its regular meeting held on last Sunday afternoon A complete history of the cause of the walkout or lockout (whatever It may be termed) was fully explained by delegates of the Trades and Labor Council before the action was taken An assessment was ilit413 voted in the sum of one day's pay for each member to be invested In Thrift Stamps on June 29 Labor's Day at the War Savings Bank Newly-elected offivers were installed and the following standing committees appointed for the ensuing year by President Bert Gaines: Communications and Wilson NV Emmons and Russel McWilliams Long II Albert and Spivey Markey Elmer Black lock and Harry Snyder Myers Frank Keith Trades and Labor Deshler Mont Powell Bert Beals and it Gadd Reading Russell Wallace Philadelphia June stage hand to ensign in the Navy reads somewhat like a bit of Bora) Alger It is in fact but a sidelight of what the democracy of Uncle Sam is doing for the American lads Seven months ago Albert Burry 23 1731 North 31st Street Philadelphia was working around the local theaters and in spare times acting as a moving picture operator The thing he was proudest of was his membership in the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage had no outlook on life save to some day capture a "Job" as a "road man" with some New York traveling production Then came the war spirit into his soul Back stage between acts he scanned the papers anent the atrocities of the Huns His young American blood grew hot He talked it over with his dad John Burry veteran circus man and active In the Central Labor Union of the Quaker City Dad said "go and help your country if you feel you can be of service" His mother wept and the kids of the Burry faintly were proud He enlisted at the League Island Navy Yard He was diligent in his duties The quiet lad attracted the attention of his superior officers One day he did a difficult problem in algebra for the assistant-conimandant of the yard In appreciation he was encouraged to study navigation and other things essential to advance in the navy Burry proved an adept student He performed well many Important tasks His future was tilled with thought he might some day become a petty officer Last week he was ordered to make a formal application for discharge from the navy Young Burry almost collapsed He protested that he Vitta guilty of nothing justifying any such drastic action ills superiors were adamant When the papers were formally completed be was handed other papers to till then a great light dawned on his mind that the democracy of Uncle Sam was something more than mere words And today young Burry is on a ship belonging to Uncle Sam Ile is in the uniform of an ensign Ile is walking the decks just as John Paul Jones and Farragut and Dewey and other illustrious American sea-warriors have walked them in the great days of yore And in his inside pocket is a resolution voted him by his fellow unionists in appreciation of the honor his conduct brought to the labor union Next to his commission and the love of father and mother it is the dearest possession Ensign Albert Burry ex-stage hand possesses And so in these trying days of the worlds agony the democracy of the American republic goes sweeping on in its duty of reclaiming the good seeds in the stony ground so that the harvest from the fields of the nation's manhood might be conserved for the greatest tasks in all the ages Ask no rest we have a victory to win Diamonds
