Goodin who lives on rural route No. 6 from Raleigh, is a thrifty farmer. He lives at home and boards at the same place. C.t Box 225 Local Matters The State Council of Red Men will meet in this city in May. The Democratic State Executive Committee will meet in this city tonight. The only daughter of Mr. Fred W. Dickson at Wake Forest is dangerously sick.

Mrs. W. S. Barnes has been quite sick with grippe or pneumonia, but is reported better. Mr.

William E. Foster, aged sixty-three, a native of Franklin County, died in this city Sunday after a long illness. Frances, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.

D. Rand, died at Garner last Friday, aged two years and three months. Mr. Joseph Phillips, of Mooore County, is at Rex Hospital for an operation. He is a brother of Mr.

R. M. Phillips, Secretary of the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. The Raleigh and Pamlico construe tion management have purchased through Mr. William Taylor, of the Pace Mule Company, eighteen fine mules for work on the railroad.

"The Mummy and the Humming Bird" will appear at the Academy Friday night, April 6. It is known as "Jules Murray's Own and is said to be worthy of a large patronage. Mr. Claudius Dockery took the oath of office before Judge Purnell Monday and took charge of the office of U. S.

Marshall, succeeding his uncle; Col. H. C. Dockery, who retires with a good record. Miss Emma Knott of this city and Mr.

Herbert R. Acton, of Baltimore, were married here yesterday at the residence of the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus H. Knott, who live at 502 South Salisbury Street.

Mr. M. Bernard has returned from Richmond, where he left his wife in the Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bernard continues ill, but her condition has improved sufficiently for her husband to return here for a few days.

Mrs. B. G. Ennis, near Varina, is very sick. Her brother, Mr.

D. L. Adams, of Raleigh, is at her bedside. Mr. Robert II.

Bradley, Marshal of the State Supreme Court, underwent an operation at Rex Hospital thi? week. His condition is said to be entirely satisfactory. Mr. John C. Dockery, Deputy U.

S. Marshal, has retired from the office of U. S. Marshal and will engage in business at Rockingham. Deputies J.

A. Sharpe and P. A. Mitchell will be retained. The above are all office deputies.

Other deputies will be located throughout the district. The Carrollton Hotel on Fayetteville Street is being torn down. Several apartment houses will be erected on the Fayetteville Street front and three 'cottages on the Cabarrus Street side of the lot. With such buildings the property will be very desirable. As a hotel, it was a failure.

A queer battle took place Sunday afternoon at the home of Deputy Clerk of the Court Virtruvius Royster on East Hargett Street.
