Archie Booth and Miss Mildred Barnes both of Sturgeon, were united in marriage Saturday afternoon in Columbia by Rev.

W. C. Giggs. They were accompanied by Miss Marjorie Barnes and Mitchell Bartee. The bride is an accomplished young lady.

At present she is teaching in the Sturgeon public school, where she has taught for the past three years. The groom is a prosperous young farmer. They will reside on a farm near Skinner. The newlyweds are receiving the congratulations of their many friends. North Side Square.

The junior editor of the Guard was on the sick list Sunday and Monday, with a bad cold and a touch of flu. Some think it was the cooking, but we hasten to state that he has been on the same menu, practically, and under the same chef for the past quarter of a century, and while it could possibly have been the lack of cooking, we dont think it Can be laid onto the chef or the vittles. BlTLER-ACUFF. Word has been received here by Mrs. Harry S. Rowland of the marriage of her sister, Miss Pauline Acuff, to Monroe Butler, on Wednesday evening, April 22id. The wedding ceremony was performed by Dr.

Jenkins of the Linwood Chiistian church, in Kansas City. The bride is a daughter of Wm. C. Acuffi and wife, and was born in Centralia. She received her schooling in the public school here and, after the family moved to Columba, finished high school and a business course in that city.

Later taking a course in music in Kansas City. She has taught music and expression in various places, notably Excelsior Springs, and has sung in grand opera taking some of the most difficult arias and winning the plaudits of the critics and public alike. She is still continuing her studies in voice culture, having one of the most wonderful voices of any young woman in the state. Besides her accomplishments, the bride is a pretty girl and will make a wonderful helpmeet to the man of her choice. The groom is a son of Mrs.

M. J. Butler of Lexington, Mo. He is in business in Kansas City, being vice-president and agency manager of the American Railways Savings and Loan Company. They will continue to make their home in, Kansas City.

About twenty-one members of the Junior B. Y. P. U. enjoyed a weinie roast out near placid Lake Deutcher Monday afternoon.

P.ev. Arlie Hunt of Mexico will pieach at the Holiness church next Sunday morning and evening. All are invited. O. B.

Tribble and wife had as a Sunday guest Elder W. C. Balienger of Kansas City, a relative of Mr. Tribble. Elder Balienger preached at the Church of Christ here Sunday.

C. Jennings was in Mexico on business, Saturday. Farrar Elliott is here attending the funeral of his mother. Miss Marie Jones was the Sunday prest of Miss Ruth LeCouiff. G.

W. Ousley, quite sick for some time, is reported much better. Harry Jennings of Columbia was the Sunday guest of his parents. Newman Bugg of Mexico was the Sunday guest of his family here. Mrs.

Berkebile and wife of Columbia were the Sunday guests of Jim Morris and family. Jasper Harris and wife of Kansas City were the week end guests of her brother, Logan Kaufman and family. Julius R. Edwards has been confined to his bed with a spell of sickness, but is reported better. Remember Mother with an elegant box of candy, for Mothers Day.

J. K. Jones, was the Sunday guest of Yelton Todd and family in Columbia. She also called on her new grandson at the Boone County hospital. Vv.

C. Adams and wife were the Sunday guests of her parents, south of town. They were accompanied by little Miss Dorothy Faucett, who was their guest the past weak. Cana Roberts left Tuesday noon for Piedmont, Oklahoma, on a prio-pecting trip. He may remain there all summer, or he may return, owing to conditions.

Ed Robison and son, Walter and Ray Robison and Mrs. Charles Poor of St. Louis were the week end visitors with Sam Robison and family, and Ed Sneed and family. Sims Bros. (J.

W. and Luther) lost their residence and the contents near Flynt school house, Wednesday, by fire. Cause of the fire not learned. The boys had no insurance, Large individual tomato plants at the Wonneman Flower Sale, May 12 and 13. R.

L. Hope. Miss Helen Tribble of Columbia, accompanied by her sister, Miss Ma-ble, who had been visiting with her, came up and spent the week end with their parents. Miss Helen returned to Columbia Monday. Mrs.

Simpson Newman has return ed to her home in Hannibal after a two weeks visit here with her parents, E. E. Townsend and wife. She was accompanied by Miss Mabel Eis-ele, who will spend some time there. No use to pay more if you want a good white paint for $2.40 per gallon.

R. L. Hope has all kinds of paint. Dale Hamilton and wife of this city and George Prather and Harry Hulen and wives, of Mexico, motored down to Auxvasse Creek Sunday to feed the fish but the latter were not very hungry, as evidenced by their catch. C.

Schooler and daughter, Miss Flossie, delightfully entertained for the following guests last Sunday: Their son and brother, L. C. Schooler, in St. Louis their nephew and cousin, Edgar Burnett of Michigan City, Indiana and J. W.

Burnett and family of Ashland. Miss Nina Rowland will leave for St. Louis, Saturday where she will spend a few days with relatives and friends. From there she will go to Cape Girardeau where she will attend a I. E.

O. convention, as a delegate, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the coming week. Mrs. J. Ford Honey held open house for the members of the 42 club, Wednesday, in honor of Mrs.

L. M. Sinclair, who will shortly move to Kansas City, and Mrs. Irvine Kuhne, who will join her husband in Decatur, Illinois, when the present term of school closes. E.

T. Fuller of Hannibal, came over Saturday and returned Sunday, accompanied by his wife, who spent the past week at the bedside of her mother, Mrs. M. M. Dawson, who fell, Sunday a week ago and broke her right hip, the account of which was chronicled in our last issue.

Louis, were here the week end visitors of O. B. Tribble and wife. Mrs. Dennis Craghcad and daughter of Browns Station were the Sunday guests of Mrs.

Ben Crump and family Mrs. Lawrence Alvey and Children are spending several days with her parents in Montgomery City, this week. Mrs Otis Baliew spent the week end with W. M. Cox, a brother in Columbia, who has the pneumonia but is doing nicely now.

Mrs. Roy Huckstep and children of Bowling Green, were here several days the past week the guests of her parents, A. G. Pool and wife. Mrs.

Frank M. Burks and daughter of Chinook, Montana, arrived in Centralia Wednesday to attend the funeral of her mother, Mrs. Fisher Elliott. T. D.

LaMar and wife of Council Bluff, Iowa were here several days the past week the guests of Mrs. Nannie Hardin. They were enroute to Centralia, Illinois. C. T.

Bagby is having the exterior of his hardware store improved and painted, this week, adding gieat-ly to its appearance. Mrs. Otto Senf and son Herman sold forty-two spring chicks that weighed 79 pounds, this week. The chicks were hatched February 17. Born to Mr.

and Mrs. Gid Powell at Wichita Falls, Texas, a son. Mr. Powell was formerly employed in Centralia and was at one time on the home base ball team. Uncle Jack Sturgeon is on the sick list again.

We hope for his speedy recovery as his friendly face is missed by many. It is hard to keep a good man down. J. J. Angell received news Tuesday of th serious illness of his soon-inlaw, Robt.

Llewellyn, who was taken to a hospital in Trinidad, Colorado, for treatment or probably operation. A regional conference of the Boone County W. C. T. U.

will be helld in Columbia, on May 11 at the Broadway Methodist church. All unions of the county will take part. The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs in joint session, celebrated the anniversary of the founding of the order, on Monday night. There was a nice program and a goodly attendance of both orders, and the affair was one of the most entertaining of the season. J.

W. Angell, of Barnum, Iowa, in renewing for the Guard says that they have not had a rain yet this spring and they are badly in need of moisture. All the oats are sown and most of the corn ground is broken. HH. L.

Pruett has for next Wednesday and Thursday night picture at his theatre on Allen Street, Gene Stratton Porters great story, The Keeper of the Bees. This is a most wholesome story and it makes a picture worth seeing. Tonight, (Friday) Mr. Pruett has on The Turmoil, a picture worth your time and money to see. For Saturday night Wm.

Farmers are most through sowing barley and there is quite a lot of it being Fall wheat is looking good and growing rapidly. Our little town of Cape is quite a thriving little village. We have three dry goods stores, one drug store, a hardware store, three cream stations, a bank, a restaurant, a garage, blacksmith shop, a church and a high school. Cope is 2G miles north of the Rock Island Railroad. Denver is 150 miles west of here.

We are on a star route, so get our mail every day except Sunday. Seibert is our railroad town. The state highway runs through Cope to Denver so truck handle goods in and out of that place cheaper than does the railroad. The big Annual Flower Sale from Wonnemans will be held Wednesday, May 12th and Thursday, May 13th, R. L.
