Guilford Smith 5-9158 Dr. Eichhorn Named to Academy Dr. Frank D. Eichhorn of Garden City has been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The degree of Fellowship may be attained in either of two ways: successful completion of 600 or more hours of accredited continuing medical study, or achievement of diplomate status in the specialty of family practice as a result of passing a certifying examination administered by the American Board of Family Practice. Fellowship entitles the conferee to use the title "Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians," or "FAAFP." The degree was conferred October 11 upon more than 1,000 members of the Academy in conjunction with the AAFP's annual convention and scientific assembly in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Academy, representing more than 38,000 family doctors, pioneered among national medical groups in requiring members to take continuing study, a minimum of 150 accredited hours every three years. The AAFP, headquartered in Kansas City, is the largest of medicine's specialty groups. VISTA Faces Shortage of Volunteers SEATTLE (AP) — VISTA is swinging back to its community-organizing goal of the 1960s, but this time young people may not go along. Local recruiters say Volunteers in Service to America is having a hard time finding young people to fill programs aimed at training them to organize the poor to fight for political power. Forty "nominees" were sought from the Pacific Northwest for training to begin in December, said Dee Kerkhoff, area manager for Peace Corps and VISTA recruiting. However, only six have signed up, she said. Recruiting has proved difficult everywhere, but "we're having a harder lime than the rest of the nation," she said. The special programs aim at organizing people in several states, including Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee and South Dakota. Signups for more specific and technical Peace Corps and VISTA openings are running about the same as they have in recent years, says Alan Waugh, a Seattle recruiter.
