Tenor Weir, who has a home under me Brazos Bluffs near Tierra Amarilla. is the driving force behind the Chama Music Festival. "This is my fondest dream," said Weir, who is volunteering his time, money and voice, "I feel it is my job to expose the public to as many lands of music as I can." "In 1993, in said Weir, "We will institute Children's Concerts.

Pianist Norman Shetler, who works with Classical music and puppets, will offer Saturday morning workshops. By the end of the class, the children will present an opera, using puppets. "Part of the plan of the Chama Music Festival is to have a performance hall by 1994. By 1995, we will institute the Academy, offering master classes for young musicians with the professional singers, pianists, instrumentalists and conductors who come here to perform," said Weir. Authors to Read in Taos At the Weir concert, Phil Cole, of Chama, said, "I think the idea of the Music Festival is great It seems a very well-organized plan.

If this first concert is any indication of the professionalism we can expect, they certainly did all the right things. "It was a good idea to use the young people as ushers, and they did a nice job on the hall," Cole said. "I was mentally comparing it with the Atlanta Syphony, and it compares very favorably. I consider the mix of offerings in the performance very appropriate. It definitely showed that it is being done by someone who knows what he's doing." Other area residents expressed similar views, Chon LaBrier, of Ensenada, said, "I'm at a loss for words.

The concert was wonderful. We are way overdue for this kind of entertainment. I'm especially delighted with the plans for the future. This is not only important to us as the older generation, but it's really good for the young people." A regular Chama visitor, Anne French, of Rockland County, New York, said, "I enjoyed the concert, and found it professional. The concept of the Chama Music Festival is extremely ambitious.

I hope to be here next summer when it is in progress." Jjfape Crisis Center Lil NEW MEXICAN i PI i I.
