JUNE 2, 1960 THE RIO GRANDE SUN, New Page Last Survivor Of Pioneer Family Dies Up' Valley Rites Held Funeral services were Friday for Mrs. Epimenia S. Borrego, who died last week at San Ratael del Guique at the age of 91. Mrs. Borrego was the last of large pioneer family that first settled in the Espanola Valley.

She was born March 3, 1869, the daughter of Marcos Sisneros and Maria Antonio Lopez. Her husband, Don Manuel Eutimio Borrego died in 1930. She is survived by a son, Manuel A. Borrego and nine grandchildren, Mrs. Marcos Duran, Mrs.

Four Man Crew Wins Annual Rio Boat Race Crew of Tom Boyd, Robert Stapleton, and Bob Poe and Jerome Beery took first place in the annual Rio Grande Boat Race May 22 with a time of 58 minutes 58 seconds. Second place went to Rodger White and John Lundgren in a time of 55 minutes 11 seconds and third place sent to Bob Douglas and Bill Rodgers in 55 minutes 29 seconds. About 1,000 people lined US 64 to watch the race which was a rock-studded challenge due to low water, the river dropping for about a week earlier due to cold weather.

Only casualties of the race were a raft, which had its bottom ripped out, and a boatman who was swept overboard on 'Big Rock Rapid'. The man overboard quickly swam back to the raft. May 22. Serving cookies they baked themselves and pouring for their mothers, the 26 girls ended their activities for the present season. As a fellow-up to their "flying up" ceremony, last Saturday the girls had a luncheon by themselves, after which they attended a movie. Their activities culminated in a mother-daughter tea held at the home of Mrs. Charles Shafer Donald Montoya, 17, Truchas, reported to state police this week his car was forced off the road about a mile east of Truchas by another vehicle. Montoya was, uninjured, but his Auto Forced Off Highway car had to be towed in by wrecker. The accident occurred about 10:30 a.m.

on State Road 76. Montoya could not identify the driver of the car that forced him off the highway. Garcia, San Juan Pueblo, was among three New Mexico drivers whose driving privileges were suspended for having been convicted of driving while the influence of intoxicating liquor during the week ending May 20.
