Randall is constantly working with Trigger, keeping him in perfect shape for cowboy star. By DAVE HOLLAND Remember in the movies how Roy Rogers used to come galloping up on his horse, Trigger, swing down from the saddle and then ask the great palomino questions? "Trigger," Roy would say, "what do you think, should I go after that crdok?" And Trigger would neigh and vigorously nod his head. Then Roy would smile and ask, "Well, look here, boy, do you' think I should kiss the girl when this whole thing is over?" And just as vigorously, at another almost imperceptible touch from Roy, Trigger would shake his great head and you could almost see him sneer. Then Roy would leap into the saddle and Trigger would rear high into the air, his forefeet "pawing at the clouds," and the stallion would carry his master off on the trail of injustice.

Or now, on television, or when Roy and his wife, Dale Evans, make personal appearances, you've seen the "King of the Cowboys" put that beautiful troupe of' Liberty horses through their intricate paces and you've marveled at the precision with which they perform. "Well, podner," as Roy might say, you would never have enjoyed the tricks of Trigger, billed as the "Smartest Horse in the Movies," or the teamwork of the Liberty horses if it weren't for a North Hollywood man named Glenn Randall. Randall has been training the Roy Rogers horses since 1940, a year before Pearl Harbor. Other performing horses to his credit include Rex Allen's "Koko," Zorro's "Tornado" and the mount used by Robert Horion in "Wagon Train." Randall's most recent accomplishment was the training and supervision of the horses used in the MGM spectacle, "Ben Hur." The horseman spent 1112 months in Rome working with the 78 horses used in the exciting chariot sequence, teaching them not only how to act in harness but how to act and react in front of the cameras. But Randall, who is now 50, doesn't limit his training to the movies.

I-le operates a stable at 12525 Sherman Way and, there, people may take their own horses for the expert to train or they may go in for training themselves and learn the proper way to "sit a horse." To make it more pleasant for horse, rider and trainer, a special hi-fi system pipes music through the gigantic training barn. Randall began training horses when he was 9 years old. He "schooled" his own spotted pony to such a state of perfection that he sold the horse to the famed Sells-Floto circus. That started him on his unending career. Randall's plans for the future call for a Spanish riding school, fashioned after the famous Austrian one.

"It'll take about two years to get it like I want it," Randall said, "but when I do, we're going to have a beautiful group of performing Be it movies, television or a rodeo or fair exhibition, the public always has something to look forward to from Glenn Randall.
