J. Pennsylvania and New Jersey members of Congress were urged by state civic, Industrial, business and political leaders at a dinner last night to seek the money through an amendment to the defense production extension bill.

Pointing to the new steel plant being constructed on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware near Trenton, more than a dozen speakers said the channel work would be of the utmost Importance to the defense effort and a continuing peacetime benefit. J. Harry Labrum, chairman of the board of the Greater Philadelphia-South Jersey Council said a deep enough channel to permit ore and cargo vessels to sail to Trenton would pay the government's investment 11 to 1. In the last 115 years, he said only $101,000,000 have been spent on Delaware River Improvements, but In Just 30 years the customs collections at Philadelphia have totaled $1,103,000,000 Thomas Buckley, Philadelphia director of public works, said the economic vitality of the Trenton area will spread throughout the area. The sooner the channel is deepened, he said, the sooner will this vast new economic development come.

Joseph K. Costello, general manager of the Delaware Rive Joint Commission of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, compared the estimated $50,000,000 cos of the channel with the $80, Miss McNeil to Wed lichard B. Barner Miss Ruth McNeil, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. D.
