RADIO TELEVISION SAVE THESE PROGRAMS VOL. 5 No. 52 ALTOONA, MAY 2 FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 8 -rae 3 'ij JUDY CANOVA HEARD 10 P. M. SATURDAY OVER WFBG AND WFBG-FM 3 The Judy Qanova Show was first heard over NBC on Jan.

13, 1945. Judy's radio personality is that of a hillbilly girl from Cactus Junction trying desperately to adapt herself to the ways of polite suburban society. Typical, broadcasts have shown her as princess-for-a-day on a radio show, star of the local opera troupe, a party-crasher, a baby sitter and a nurse's aide. In each case, the script contains characteristic Canova faux pas and malapropisms. There is an occasional flashback to Cactus Junction.

Besides Judy, the cast includes Mel Blanc, radio's "man of 1,000 voices," who plays Pedro the gardener, and Roscoe Wortle, a fast-talking traveling salesman. Ruth Perrott is Aunt Agatha, Ruby Dandridge plays Geranium, the maid, and Joe Kearns is heard as Winchester, the butler. Judy sings several songs -on each program, accompanied by Charles Dant's orchestra and the Sportsmen, a vocal quartet. Judy Canova, star of "The Judy Canova Show," was born in Jacksonville, Nov. 20.

1916. Attended grade and high school there, went to Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and began training for operatic career, Formed a singing team with her sister, Annie, and soon discovered that her delivery of comedy songs attracted more attention than did her attempts at grand opera. Both went to New Julietta, nicknamed "Tweeney." NBC's "Your Hit Parade" began April 20, 1935, and featured Lennie Hayton's band with the top 10 tunes of the week. The program has continued regularly as a Saturday evening series, and has featured orchestras directed by Carl Holff, Harry Salter, Al Goodman, Freddy Rich, Harry Sosnick, Abe Lyman and Alex Singers on the program included Frank Sinatra, Dick Haymes, Andy Russell, Dinah Shore, Ginny Sims, and many others. The format never has changed; the orchestra and vocalists present the 10 songs, each wpek which have reached the heiglits of popularity.

The current, series features singers Bill Harrington and Eileen Wilson, with Mark Warnow's orchestra and the vocal group, "The Hit Paraders." Eileen Wilson, vocalist on "Your Hit was born in San Diego, Calif. Her father was a naval officer. Attended grade and high schools in California and New York City. Received a degree from UCLA, where she majored in music. Radio career began while in college, singing on programs over local stations.

Skitch Henderson gave her a break when he signed her as vocalist with his radio show. Sang later with other top-notch bands," including the Les Brown orchestra, where she met her future husband, Ray Kellogg. Listen to The "FIGHT OF TC3E WEEK" Every MONDAY MITE At 10.P.M.
