ST-62510 TH68920 PIERCE BKOTHEItS BRAKES RELINED V' VALHALLA VAN NUYS 10621 Victory fivd. 6153 Van Nuys Blvd. SU-39123 St 7-3133 ,5252136 Today I digress from contempla' ton of great stars and million dollar television shows to bring you the story of a young man and big dream. What makes the story different that the dream has not yet been realizedmay never be realized, but the young man Is on the way.

The story also substantiates the fact that it is terrifically hard to even get one's foot in position to climb the ladder of Hollywood fame. It concerns a personable thirty-IA young man named Carl Princi who came to Hollywood from his native New England five years agothe dream: radio and TV lame. Qualified Now. Carl Princi had every possible attribute to fit him for an immediate job in radio. He had been everything from, actor to announcer, to program, manager, to general rniudger on eastern stations.

He spoke Italian, and French, had a good knowledge of German. As a trouble shooter he had brought many a station out of the red and into the black. So what happened? Nothing. Oh, there were occasional small jobs. Part-time work on KMGMFM and even a few Ty engagements, such as role of the prosecuting attorney on "You Be the Jury" for which he was paid a week for rehearsing five nights and then portraying the role.

Princi was on short rations, but he wouldn't give up. Some time ago he landed a part-time job at Pasadena's KWKW under General Manager Bill Beaton. Gets Break And then an unusual thing transpired. After listening to Carl work, Beaton, impressed, called his friend Cal Smith at KPAC and said, "I have a man working for me that should be working for you. We have no full-time openings, why riot give the chap a break?" Smith said he had no job vacancies, either, but he'd talk to Princi and keep him in mind, and an interview was arranged.

The day following the interview KFAC staff man Mark Breneman, brother of the great Tom Breneman, was stricken with a heart attack and died. Princi was hired summarily and at long last had the steady radio job he'd sought. Today he is a highly valued member of the competent KFAC staff. He has not yet accomplished his dream, but it is at least intact. Moral of the story, if any, is that in Hollywood no one beats a path to your door.

You've got to have what it takes. You've got to impress people who are in a position to do, you some good and you've got to, get the breaks. And if you haven't the fortitude to sweat it out you may as well' go back to dear old Pocatello.
