them offering to sell them something for almost nothing and offering to Fred Kukeubaker who has been op-take a note in payment. It is said pernting a fiour mill at this place fur several years, and who was considered honest and square left home Tuesday morning Jan. 12, for Nevada telling his wife that he was going over there to collect a bill of Mr. Richardson who used to live here and carry the mail. Nothing was thought of the matter by his wife, as he was accustomed to go away frequently on collecting tours.

On Thursday following Henry Tinglev received a letter from Kukeubaker written at Nevada informing him that he would never again return to Jerico, and the same evening Win. Bechtel his miller received a letter informim him of the same fact and telling him and the engineer Mr. Wygent that the whole business would go under as he could not pay out and for them to run the mill and get there pay out of it before it was closed down. As for him he said he was goiDg to Mexico or Florida and never expected to return to Jerico, When the news was communicated to the wife she was almost crazed and as soon as it became known that he had absconded, many were the auathemas pronounced upon bis head. We learn that there is about twenty four hundred dollai 8 against the mill property, eight hundred of that is held by our fellow townsman Uncle Billy Hill who can illy aford to loose it, but owing to the fact that beholds a second mortgage it is very doubtful if he will get a cent.
