They picked up a crucial first down when Everett rambled 12 yards to the Eagle 36 off a fake punt on fourth down, but three plays later Everett's attempted pass was intercepted by Strickland. Neither club mounted an offensive threat as the minutes ticked away and the game finally ended with Carroll in possession on the Lake City 15. It was the first win this season for the Eagles who now are 1-4-2, and it was the sixth setback for the Tigers who will carry a 1-7 record to Sac City next week. UPSTAIRS 3 ROOM APART- ment. (AP) Jack Nicklaus shot a spectacular record round of 32-29—62 for a 54-hole score of 199, and a 12- foot putt that refused to drop in by an inch on the final hole cost him an even more fantastic score. A lesser-known golfer, young Steve Spray of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, missed by an inch on a 40-foot putt on the 18th green that would hav* given him a tie with Nicklaus. All this happened Friday, and today Nicklaus went into the final round of the $100,000 Sahara Invitational Golf Tour Tournament leading the likable 26-year old Spray by one stroke for the $20,000 top money. The 18-hole finale was scheduled for national television exposure via Sports Network, Inc. starting at 2 p.m. PDT. Nicklaus was 14 strokes under par for the Paradise Valley Country Club's, 7,069-yard, par 36-35—71 challenge. Livestock For Sale 41 DAYTIME COOK, APPLY IN person. The show Friday belonged to Nicklaus. But Spray, a pro only since March 1965, met an acid test. His 64 Thursday put him into the lead and he added an excellent 67 Friday. He was playing just behind Nicklaus and commented, "I heard Nicklaus was just having a good round, not a great one." Goalby, who played with Big Jack and shot a fine 68, said, "He made you feel you were not doing so well, even with a 68." Nicklaus' round was the best in his career.
