Six months ago, the Olympic great gave up after waiting for Bob never had any great yen to be an actor. After graduating from Stanford, he was approached with an Idea for a TV series. "But I had only six months before I was to go into the Marine Corps," he said.

'That wasn't enough time to get a series going. So Instead, we formed a company and made a feature, 'The rib Veteran character actor, Donald Crisp, has been signed by Walt Disney for a co-stamng role in the Disney motion picture production of the perennial bestselling novel, "Pollyanna." Crisp is currently on location tn Holland making "Dog of Flanders." a United Artists release. With the role of Mayor Karl Warren assigned to Crisp. Disney has assembled a powerful, all-star cast for the fumigation of the Eleanor H. Porter story.

In addition to Crisp, Jane 'Wyman, Richard Egan, Karl Malden, Nancy Olson, Adolphe Menjou, Agnes Moorehead, and Kevin Cor-coran will star in the picture. David Swift directs from his own screenplay. But though the series is backed by United Artists and sold to a cigarette firm, Bob is cooly holding on to his nonacting job.

He's on leave from the firm. Cool is the word for Mathias. That's the way he trained for and won the decathlon at London (1948) and Helsinki (1952). And thats how he has approached this business of being an actor. Itll either happen or it won't, he philosophizes.

But Wayne's company wasn't making movies. For a year and a half, Bob played in only one film China Doll. Most actors would flip their lids over such inactivity. Not Bob. "Why should I have complained?" he said.

Cent, 3 P.M.0 Theater Expansion Planned James A. Doolittle, Reneral director for the Greek Theater Association, Is making a survey of the old "Are Tear" time with the idea of expanding California dates for his theatrical productions to play San Diego, Long Beach, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Stockton, Fresno, San Jose and Sacramento. His highly successful operation of the Greek Theater for the past eight years is bringing an eager response from local sponsors in these towns which he expects to revitalize theatrically. With rare exceptions road dates for California stage attractions are limited to Los Angeles and San Francisco, Twelve years ago the cities Doolittle is contemplating were booked extensively by War-Hazelton. This was later called Ware Tear time by road company managers who travelled the territory with some Ill-advised attractions which played to rather disastrous grosses, Rising railroad and other costs, plus the reluctance of New York producers to gamble, diminished this playing time to rather spasmodic forays.

Finally the territory was completely dropped, with the occasional exceptions of San Diego and Santa Barbara. Doolittle proposes to establish his own booking office, build his own productions from top Broadway hits, use big name stars and present a definite serle In each town. He feels that community pride will build a strong theatergoing audience.
