ins Hood count Published Wednesday and Saturday Granbury, Texas 76048 Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1995 50 cents Rape on Brazos points to Hood Co. suspects p.m. on Friday. The 28-year-old Dallas woman and her 7-year-old son were canoeing on the Brazos on Memorial Day, May 31, 1994.

They stopped to get out of their canoe on the river somewhere between Keller's Ranch and the Tres Rios campgrounds in suspects in the rape, said Dallas private investigator Ken Treuter. Treuter, who is representing the victim, is aiding law officials in the rape investigation. Treuter hopes composite sketches of the suspects and their descriptions will encourage Hood County residents to come forward with information that will solve the case. Texas Crime Stoppers is also offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction of the suspects. The suspects are being sought on charges of rape, aggravated assault, kidnapping, child molestation and robbery.

Instead of using a statewide program to fight alcohol abuse among minors, the city is establishing its own program, says Granbury municipal judge Ben Macon. Rather than paying the state to train an instructor for the program, area law officers will be utilized as instructors, Macon said. That will be much cheapet, he states. The city decided to form its own program because officials felt participating in the state program would be too costly, said Macon.

The city will also be able to control the program, he pointed out "We keep it under our control, local District attorney seeks re-election 'The motivation of our court is to get a change of behavior in Municipal judge Ben Macon control," Macon stated. In the 1980s, Olson had recommended Hewlett donate land he owned at the end of East Bridge Street for a city park, Hewlett recalled. On Tuesday, Dec. 19, Hewlett and his wife Patsy did just that. They donated the 3.79 acres to Granbury for a city park.

Not only does the donation fulfill Olson's suggestion, it also honors the 100th anniversary of the Doyle Agency, Hewlett said. The agency was created in 1895, he stated. "We thought it would be something good," Hewlett said of the land donation. "Bud Olson kind of laid the seeds for it," Hewlett said. "It could make a beautiful location for a park." Granbury community services director John Holt said the site adjoins the old city sewage treatment plant just off East Pearl Street.

That plant will be closed and filled in when expansions at the city sewage treatment plant on Old Cleburne Road are completed, Holt said. After that, the city will begin developing the site for a park, stated Holt. Construction on the sewer plant expansions should begin in about two years, he said. Back in the 1980s, Olson used to walk every morning, Hewlett said. On his way home, Olson would stop by the Doyle Agency on South HoustonStreet and have coffee with him, stated Hewlett During one morning coffee break, discussion led to Hewlett's land at the end of East Bridge Street.

"I've got an idea," Hewlett said Olson told him. "You ought to give that land to the city." That would suit him fine. "I'd like to continue to make the criminals and dopers wish I wasn't the DA," Hattox said.

Hattox, 39, filed last week for a place on the March ballots. He's been district attorney since 1987. Hattox, a Republican, has no opposition so far. In his last campaign, he defeated Democrat Andrew Ottaway in a hotly-contested race. Hattox enjoys his work.

"I've always considered it a privilege to serve the people of Hood County," he said. "I couldn't imagine a more satisfying and better career than whatl've had.
