Basically, a large restaurantmajor concert venue, with a consistently impressive array of mostly big-time rock roll, jazz and whatever msca talent (as well as dancing) featured The restaurant serves California grill, in elegant, pleasantly lit split-level dining areas. Brass With Scss; and he-man from The Woodpeckers, who remind us of Little Feat. TOE'S TAVERN, 7230 Topanga Canyon Canoga Park; 732 W. Catalina Redondo Beach; 37 N. Catalina Pasadena. Toe's Tavern is a chain of what they call "Classic Surf dedicated to the beach and surfing lifestyles of Southern California (quite a noble profession, if you ask us).

They offer billiards, darts, shuffleboard, Ping-Pong and live '60s-style rock roll all weekend. All bands start at 9:30 p.m., and there's hardly ever" a cover charge. Wednesdays are called Big Wednesday, and they sport surf movies and draft beer specials all night. Thursday is Starving Students Night, with free pizza and a beer of the week special. Fri. Pasadena: sort of 'Classic Rock" covers (it's like a KLSX playlist come to The Trip; Canoga Park: Take Redondo Beach; surf music from Toe's faves The McGlyim Brothers Band Sat. Pasadena' classic tunes done with style from King King kings The Hue Shadows; Canoga Park: fusion reggae from The Thom Teresi Band, Redondo Beach: one of the South Bays favorite surf-rock bands, Insert Surfers, who apparently just got some kind of record deal. TRANCAS, 30765 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu. Malibu's oldest and most prestigious nightcjub features entertainment and dancing nightly, with music ranging from rock to reggae to as well as comedy, dance reviews and theatrical performances.

Two full-service bars, a large dance floor, and one of the best sound systems around. A restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there's an outdoor patio, too; over 21 (213) 457-5516.
