24 LA. WEEKLY June 20-June 26, 1980 4 Mm 3 Reviews by Ginger Varney with Diane Saltzberg and Michael to death, and, best of all, they will not follow their instincts for sexual guidance but look instead to the pornographic pictures that miraculously survived the shipwreck along with thertn. Yes, the cinematography by Nestor Alamendros leaves you breathless, but the content makes your kids the same old stupid. (GV) THE BLUE LAGOON Rest assured, dear readers, that should our children ever be cut off from the benefits of industrial civilization and grow up on an island paradise like Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins do in The Blue Lagoon, nothing much will change. They will still be ashamed of their bodies and keep secrets from one another, they will learn nothing from their environment once their only adult companion drinks himself THE BLUES BROTHERS This movie starts committing suicide in the opening shots with the idiocy of director John Landis' cinematography.

(He loves weird angles, preferably those where the camera is 1 perched on the ceiling.) Then, in no special order of disgrace, comes James Brown playing a preacher in a scene which suggests black people like religion because it makes them into musical monkeys; Aretha Franklin playing a cafe owner which suggests black people like soul food because it makes them into musical monkeys; and Cab Calloway playing an old trooper in a scene which suggests black people like boogie-woogie because it makes them into mysical monkeys. Meanwhile Carrie Fisher flits in and out of a bit which suggests women with guns are funny because they're women with guns. In between all the whackingly wonderful car crashes is The Blues Brothers band, fronted by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd who can't sing, dance, or act. Apparently that's supposed to be funny too. What's absolutely not funny is the way the music is used -without warmth, perception, or honor.

For people who have no respect for music or movies, for that matter. (GV) INCORRIGIBLE Jean-Paul Belmondo and Genevieve Bujold directed by Phillippe de Broca King of Hearts). The association is an enormously happy one, -what with Belmondo being so full of fun and ease and extravagant irony, and Miss Bujold putting her pretty little foot down just when all the airy nonsense might go floating off the screen.
