THE EVENING NEWS, HARRISBURG, TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 1932 Local Dealers Packard Light Eight Sedan Pierce-Arrow Club Brougham Show Chevrolets twelve regular and eight do luxe models are included in this line, first brought to the nublic early in De camber. They are being displayed at the show by the Dngue Chevrolet Sales and by the SutiiU cnevro let local dealers. Tha new cars have such features as free wheeling provided by an over-running clutch ana combined with svnchro-mesh transmission; down-draft carburetion, counter balanced crankshaft, smaller wheels and larger tires, adjustable front seats in the closed models, cowl vnntilator on all models, improved clutch and an additional cross-mem Keystone Oil Co. Displays Product Despite the fact that many branches of business showed a decrease in volume during 1932, the records of the Keystone Oil Corporation, local distributors of Purol-Pep and Tiolene Motor Oil, show that sales during the past year were nearly double those of the preceding year, according to H. E.

Oberman, local manager. A further encouraging criterion is the fact that during November, 1931, the records revealed that the business transacted equaled three times the sales of the corresponding month of the previous year. Discussing the proper care of cars during the winter season, Mr. Oberman said: In winter, gasolines are less inclined to knock, and few people keep an accurate record of mileage. But if a gasoline fails to start quickly they know it at once.

A slow start is aggravating, and it wastes gasoline, dilutes oil, wears down the battery. A quick start is all-important. Knowing this, Pure Oil executives decided to give motorists what they want and more. They asked the company's refining experts to make Pure Oil gasolines the quickest starting on the market this winter. And furthermore, they asked for better starting quality without sacrifice of ber in the frame.

Power has been increased by 20 per it is said, and the new cars have a top speed of sixty-five to seventy miles an hour, fhe six- cylinder engine delivers sixty horsepower. Wheelbase remains at 109 inches. tWMbMlsWw- The most striking change in appearance is the "stabilized" front end mounting. In the new Chevrolet the fenders, radiator and headlamps are carried on a single fender support unit, anchored to the center of shipped from Pure Oil plants are refined to Pure Oil's new winter specifications, and are more volatile than ever before.

They are refined to vaporize easily, instantly, and grades of Pure Oil gasoline. Once more the Pure Oil Company has further increased the quality of its gasolines to meet a specific motoring need. All grades of pasoline now being "mileage," "anti-knock," or any other important qualities for which Purol-Ethyl and Purol-Pep are famous. As a result of careful analysis Pure Oil refining engineers developed new winter specifications for all Chevrolet Special Sedan the front cross-member ot the irame. This "pivotal anchorage" is said to enable the front end to sway with the body as a unit, reducing "weaving" or "twisting" and concomitant noises.

The windshields of all models are slanted at a sharper angle, and the bodies are streamlined to reduce wind resistance. The sloping front pillars blend into the curving top. 'fhe outside sun visor has been eliminated in favor of an adjustable one inside.

For easier riding, the springs have been improved, front ones having increased camber and load-carrying capacity, rear ones in the roadster and coupe models having one more leaf than formerly. An "equalizer" attached to the left front window is said to reduce the effort necessary to raise or lower the window. Improvements In "timing valve opening and compression ratio contribute to the increase in power and the quicker acceleration of the new engines. A heat control valve has been added to the exhaust manifold concentrate the hot gases for asier starting and faster warming p. An air dome has been added to the fuel pump for constant feeding of fuel to the carburetor, particularly when driving at high speed or at low engine temperatures.

Within the air cleaner a resonance chamber has been built to reduce the "hiss" of incoming air. Show New Lincoln 1 The Lincoln for 1932 presents two 'distinct models one on a new twelve-cylinder chassis of 145-inch uheelbase, the other on the eight-cylinder chassis of 136-inch wheel-base. The new Lincoln line is being shown by the Francis Auto Sales Company.

Bodies on the two chassis are long and low, modern in every respect. Lines are graceful, contours sweeping. Their air-flow lines are emphasized by the slanting windshield and the pleasing downward curve of the coach-sill which is carried from radiator to rear fender. A sport phaeton and "doublen-tree" sport sedan, an all-weather brougham and all-weather cabriolet by Brunn, a coupe and a two-window berline by Judkins and a convertible roadster and town cabriolet by LeBaron are included in the custom group. Others are a sport berline, a coupe and a convertible sedan by Dietrich, a panel brougham and a limousine by Willoughby, a roadster by Murphy, a town car by Rollston and a victoria by Water-house.

The Lincoln standard bodies on the twelve-cylinder chassis include sport touring, sport phaeton, five-passenger coupe, town sedan, five-passenger sedan, seven-passenger Ecdan and limousine. There are both two and three-window types of the town sedan. The sport phaeton is offered both with and without ton-noau cowl. The bodies on the Lincoln V-8 cylinder chassis include a sport phaeton, a two-passenger coupe, a five-passenger coupe, a two-window town sedan, a three-window five-passenger sedan, a seven-passenger sedan and a limousine. Many improvements are incorporated in the two chasses, which, aside from the wheel base length and the engines, are virtually identical.

The transmission has synchronizing cones in second and high speed gears for quiet speed changing. An independent free-wheeling "unit," mounted in the rear of the transmission, operates in all forward speeds and locks automatically when reverse gear is used. Free wheeling may be employed or not, as de-pired. A control on the dash may be operated to neutralize the unit and permit use of the conventional transmission. because of much lower air pressure and much wider base, permitting Improved Free Wheeling in all forward speeds, with silent, synchro-mesh gear shift.

All prices J. o. b. Buffalo, A new twelve-cylinder car in two groups and a redesigned eight are introduced by Pierce-Arrow for the new year. A number of which are shown by the Nace Motor local distributors.

The twelve, of 140 and 150 horsepower, are available in seventeen body styles, in addition to a number of custom-built bodies by the company's and other special coachmakers. The eight is presented in twelve body types. The cars are equipped with improved free wheeling operating in all forward speeds, and the transmission is provided with silent synchro-mesh gear shifting. There is also a ride control feature which varies the shock absorber action and an automatic starting device worked through the ignition switch. An adaption of the V-type design characterizes the new radiators, which are deep and slender.

The external design in general, while retaining certain traditional Pierce-Arrow features, is quite new, with flowing and merging lines and rounded contours. An engineering departure is the box girder chassis frame, which, being rigid, is said to protect the body from the effects of "weaving" or twisting strains. The body sills rests on the outriggers beside the frame members, and frame. This method of mounting is said to allow lowering of the cars without decreasing headroom and to make is possible, -in conjunction with a wheel-tread of 61 Vi inches, to widen the seats and provide more room within the car. Though the engines of the twelves have high compression ratios, neither require anti-knock fuels, it is claimed.

In these power plants the cylinders are cast in two blocks, separate from the crankcase. Seven main bearings are provided for the crankshaft, which also has a damper of the reaction type. Special care has been taken to provide insulation against noise, heat and cold, and vibration. Door and body panels are felt-lined, and the body itself is insulated from the frame by cork-covered mountings. The double metal dash is filled with extra thick felt and composition, and the floors are felt-lined and insulated.

In the chassis as well have provisions been made for greater quiet and the damping out of vibration. Engines are rubber-cushioned, spring shackles are ball bearing and proof against chatter, a double muffler system is used, to stifle the sound of the exhaust, and there are silent sharp curves to be negotiated with less danger of skidding or overturning. Steers as easily as old type round balloon tires, because there is no more rubber on the ground than is the case with high-pressure balloon tires because of triangular shape of tires. Cars can be parked with no more effort than with old high-pressure balloons. Stability of the car is absolutely assured at all speeds because of triangular shape of tire, with beads wide apart.

On rough roads, uneven highway surfaces that often tear the steering wheel from a driver's hand are replaced with boulevard smoothness as tires absorb such shocks. Marks first advance over "doughnut" type of low-pressure, large air-volume tire as Streamline Jumbo is the only tire that does not spread out on the road as the tire flexes. When inflated and under load, the Jumbo does not take on the form of a flattened circle, the triangular cross-section principle: being distinctively General's own type of construction. Avoids the tendency to side-roll found in the "doughnut" type of balloon tire at low air pressure and the impression that the car is resting on a jelly-bag. New tire gives to lowest-priced cars an ease of riding that has not yet been built into even the highest-priced cars.

Gomery-Schwartz Presents New Essex In Seven Body Styles with the choke closed, as a special as and at the Show, Yoii'll Find the Exceptional in Used CaYs With seven body types, the new Essex is introduced as more powerful, faster and better equipped than ever before. It is being exhibited at the show by the Gomery-Schwarta Motor Car local distributors, and according to Fred G. Holz, manager, it is expected to attract considerable attention. Its six-cylinder engine, on wheelbase of 113 inches, is said to develop Beventy horsepower, a gain of ten horsepower over last year's.

From V-shaped radiator to molded rear quarters, the body lines follow a streamline effect. The steel bodies, of heavy box girder construction, are insulated against heat, cold and noise. Like its big brother," the Hudson, the new Essex is equipped with silent second synchro-mesh transmission, free wheeling and automatic starter, operated by turning the key in the ignition switch. A ride control on the dash permits the driver to adjust the shock absorbers for different road and temperature conditions. Such details of operation as proper mixtuie control, heat regulation and spark advance are taken care of automatically in the new models.

In addition, it is impossible to drive valve automatically opens the choke as soon as tha engine starts to operate. Through use of a special combustion chamber, new manifold improvements in the carburetion system, and balancing, increased power and smoothness of operation, with fuel economy, are said to be obtained. For greater safety and readability the instruments on the dash have been redesigned, the panel having been placed at eye level and the dials made unusually large and clear. In addition to an improved torsional vibration damper, the cars are equipped with a shock-absorbing drag link designed to eliminate front wheel "shimmy" and steering wheel "fight," particularly over rough roads. Brakes, of the mechanical, Internally expanding type, are fully enclosed.

Their capacity has been increased by 17 per cent, to meet the requirements of free wheeling. Both front and rear seats in all models of the line may be adjusted to different positions. The various models may be had in one of a number of colors black, brown, blue, green. In every case the upholstery harmonizes with the exterior hue. General Tire Co.

Present New Tire A revolutionary type of automobile tire the first passenger car tire to be designed with a triangular instead of a round cross-section was announced recently by the General Tire and Rubber Company and will be displayed at the Auto Show Dy V. D. Leisure Company, local General Tire distributor. With almost straight, stream-lined this tire will carry two arfd one-half times the volume of. air contained in the ordinary balloon tire for the same size car, and will operate at about one-third of the air pressure required for ordinary balloons.

Built like a Pyramid, with its apex at the tread and the broad base attached directly to the enlarged hub, the new General Streamline Jumbo Tire will eliminate ordinary auto-Hiobile wheels. Perfection of this stream-lined tire follows two and a half years of experimental research and development work by General Tire engineers. Tests over many thousands of miles on all kinds of road surfaces have demonstrated that the new tire has the following advantages over ordinary balloon tires, with round cross-sections; according to Charles J. Jahant, vice-president of General Tire: Large air volume and low air pressure gives motorists sensation of "floating" over the road. Large tires not only absorb all Nash Co.

Not to Show New Car Now The Nash Motors Company is not exhibiting its 1932 cars at the show, but will bring out an entirely r.ew line just before the opening of the spring buying season, it is announced. Putting the new cars into production, it is said, involves the greatest investment the company has ever made in new automobile series, and something "sensational" is promised. Details of the forth coming models have been withheld, but a general idea of the company's plans may be gathered from the following statement by C. W. Nash, president: "The time for half measures in industry or in business generally in this country is past.

We have projected and put into operation tor the coming year a program which goes all the way in meeting changed economic conditions. It is a program which virtually discards all that has gone before in our history and which might be compared to the entrance of a new manufacturing organization into the automobile field. "We are ready to introduce, within a few weeks and at the beginning of the intensive automobile buying season, five entirely new groups of Nash motor cars which will be new from the ground up.
