Scoring the mm GO The Vandals, D.V.D.A., Longfellow at the Key Club. Todos Tus Muertos, Plastilina Mosh at House of Blues. Argentina's explosive Todos Tus Muertos have roamed the underground since the mid-'80s with their Bad Brains-influenced Afro- Latin beats, but it wasn't until their land- 'if mark 1 994 CD, Dale Aborigen. that this radical reggaehip-hoppunk outfit made their mark. With the out- landish Mexican Revolution folksong 'Adelita' and the mili- tant anthem 'Alerta TTM attained instant cult status with Mexican and European audiences, a feat magnified by the fact that half the group are of African descent.

Back in the States to promote their newest CD, Camino Real, TTM have come full circle with a more mature 5' balance of love-lamenting reggae and provocative punk-rap. Freshmen Plastilina Mosh are the indie darlings of the moment, spark- ing so much interest that the duo from Monterey, Mexico, lined up some mammoth guest musicians (Cafe Tacuba, Beck's drummer Joey Waronker) and producers (including Cypress Hills Jason Roberts) on their debut CD, Aquamosh (Capitol), which features the Dust Brothers-esque 'Monster Truck' and the frantic single, 'Mr. P. reminiscent of and the Beastie Boys. (Paul Saucido) CJ CD Petra Haden Friends, Chika Chika, Crib, Gogogo Airheart at the Fold in the Chorus Club (see Other Rock Events).

Rather than blowing away their fellow classmates with semiautomatic weapons or standing out in front of the liquor store asking grownups to buy them whiskey, kids at the Smell, another all-ages club closed by The Man, enjoyed experimental music of all sorts and were culturally enriched something that's less likely to happen to them in public schools. When riot cops showed up at a Smell gig a couple months ago, they were greeted with a thrown bottle, and the place was shut down for not having the right permits. The club is on its way to reopening, but could use some help. With the recent loss of No life Records, there aren't many not-lame places for kids to go, so make sure you show up at this benefit that includes Petra Haden and friends doing something with a violin, a stuffed bear and who knows what; Crib, which is Devin Sarno generating ambient sounds on bass; Gogogo Airheart from San Diego; and Chika Chika, a Silver Lake-y, new wavey, kmda-now-kinda-wow-type band. (Adam Bregman) Freddy Fender at House of Blues.

Knocking around Texas honky-tonks in the late '50s, country singer Freddy Fender came up the hard way. Shouting a mixture of Mexican corridos and jumping rockabilly, Fender's 1960 recording of Wasted Days and Wasted Nights' was just starting to get some attention when a marijuana-possession rap landed him in Louisiana notorious Angola State Penitentiary for three years (talk about paying kiddies). Despite that horrific setback (and the fact that his parole conditions forbade working as a musician). Fender persevered; it finally paid off in 1975, after wild manrecord producer Huey Meaux arm-twisted the singer into recording Before the Next Teardrop Falls, which went on to top both the country and pop charts and established him as a major star. Fender's singing and guitar style earthy, spontaneous, imbued with a rare, graceful sweetness is distinctly his alone.

His stage show today? One of the best in country music. (Jonny Whiteside) WE ALSO RECOMMEND: CHICKEN JOHN'S CIRCUS REDICKULESS, others at Al's Bar. SPACE AGE PLAYBOYS, BETTY BLOWTORCH at Dragonfly. DELPHINES, others at the Gig. SLEEPY LaBEEF, SOUTHPAW JOHNNY HIS RIGHT HAND MEN at Jacks Sugar Shack.

MARTHA DAVIS, GREGORY PAGE, others at the Key Club. BOMBORAS. AMAZING ROYAL CROWNS, PEARL HARBOUR. BAR FEEDERS at Spaceland. RED AUNTS, ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN, ADZ, others at the Troubadour.

FRANK WALTERS, SPORTSGUITAR, others at the Viper Room. ADAAWE, others at Scruffy O'Shea's (see Other Rock Events). SARGE, others at PCH (see Other Rock Events). ROY GAINES at Cafe Boogaloo. JUMP WITH JOEY at the Conga Room.

From the 'Anarchy Burger days to the not-as-funny early '90s to now, the Vandals have slowly perfected their goofball punk sound. Last year's The Quickening contained such flawless works of sarcasm as 'How (Did This Loser Get This '(But Then) She Spoke' and 'Aging Orange," their not-so-congratula-tory tribute to fellow old-school O.C. punks Agent Orange, while Christmas With the Vandals. Oi to the World! has to be one of the most glorious Christmas collections ever, containing gems like 'Hang Myself From the Tree" and 'Christmas Time for My Penis Their Hitler Bad. Vandals Good has more severely retarded numbers like 'Cafe about a guy in love with a girl who works at Hot Dog on a Stick, and 'My Girlfriend's where an insecure fellow tells people that a truck ran over his girlfriend's head, rather than admit that she dumped him.

Also performing tonight at this early (7-10 p.m.) party for Juxtapo magazine is D.V.D something new from the creators of South Park. (Adam Bregman) Satellites, Lazy Cowgirls at Bar Deluxe. Dressed in burglar outfits and sporting English accents, the Satellites are a gang of Germans who pump out thrilling Mummies-style garage rock. Bypassing their own countrys rich cultural traditions from Bach to EinstQrzende Neubauten to numerous Sprockets-type bands, the Satellites prefer American junk like obscure '60s garage bands and awful movies. At the recent Dionysus Demolition Derby, the Satellites, who've been known to play for up to two hours, were upset to find out that they were allotted only a 40-minute set.

And make sure to catch the Lazy Cowgirls, a bunch of old bald guys transplanted here from Indiana, who throw down some vicious, trashy rock. The guitar, skull, pistol and cowboy boots that appear on the back of their last record. A Little Sex and Death, are an example of how clichd-ndden their songs are, but the album still rocks in a much more furious fashion than half the younger bands trying to sound badass. (Adam Bregman) WE ALSO RECOMMEND: USA ST. ANNE, others at Anastasias Asylum.

MEX PISTOLS, FRANTICS, others at Al's Bar. K-38, HORNY TOAD, others at 14 Below. BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO. FIACO JIMENEZ at House of Blues. SEEMEN, WOODPUSSY at Moguls.

SCOTT WEILAND, DANIEL LANOIS Fulci Fest with The Ghastly Ones, Penis Flytrap, Johnny Legend His Naked Apes at Moguls. Lucio Fulci's films are creepy epics full of gratuitous gore, and to the delight of fright fiends everywhere, Quentin Tarantino's Rolling Thunder Pictures is re-releasing the late Italian filmmaker's '81 classic. The Beyond. Tonight's spook-a-thon celebrates the opening with some fearsome music: The ghoul- ishly dapper top-hat-and-cape-wearing trio known as the Ghastly Ones plays a I fast and furious hybrid of sassy surf and haunted-house party tunes. You can check out these freaks on their brand-new A-Haunting We Will Go-Go, the premier release on Rob Zombie's new Zombie A Go-Go label.

Penis Flytrap, who cite Fulci as their inspiration and are featured on his tribute compilation, A Symphony of Fear, will perform their-shrieking rock and some appro-priately grisly stage theatrics not for the weak-stomached; and Johnny Legend and His Naked Apes will do a special set of rocka- billy-tinged 60s70s horror theme songs. Expect some surpnse guests, a costume contest and screenings of Fulci's nightmarish works. (Lina Lecaro) The Criminals, Against All Authority, Falling Sickness at Bollocks. As fine a punk band as any on the planet, the Criminals are four handsome hooligans who rip through their live set like a herd of rabid cows chasing a bunny. No question, these boys live the glamorous punk rock lifestyle of dragging around a beat-up van to play for small crowds of drunken Mohawked schoolchildren in little towns who vomit on themselves and attempt to pocket the Criminals' CDs and merchandise when they're not looking.

And what do the Criminals get out of it except a life of impoverished squatting, the thrill of stage-diving onto broken glass and the chance to sleep with an underaged punkette with scabies? Though their last record. Never Been Caught, is a fine manual of smalltime thievery with clever and even poetic lyrics about fucking shit up. the Criminals, like all great punk bands, can only be fully appreciated in a live setting where they work audiences into a barroom brawl-like frenzy. Don't miss Falling Sickness, who play their instruments awfully well for a punk band, and Florida's Against All Authority, a radical skapunk outfit that would like to remind everyone to off the pigs. (Adam Bregman) WE ALSO RECOMMEND: ARLINGTON, ATOM SMASHERS, others at ATs Bar.

BOB DRIVERS. BAR FEEDERS. SHOEGAZER at the Garage. JOAN OF ARC. BLUEBIRD, FRO DUS at PCH (see Other Rock Events).

CENTIMETERS, KRA1G GRADY at La luz de Jesus (see Other Rock Events). GO at the Palace. 5 KARA'S FLOWERS, LAVA DIVA, NERF HERDER at the Troubadour. ACTION PLUS at the Viper Room. MOONPOOLS CATERPILLARS, PHANTOM PLANET, CHOPPER ONE at the Whisky.

JUMP WITH JOEY, others at the Loft (see Other Rock Events). ABBEY BOOTH at Scruffy O'Sheas (see Other Rock Events). ROCKET 88. GROOVY REDNECKS. BAY AREA BOMBERS, others at the All-Star Lanes (see Other Rock Events), 1 RICK SHEA at Viva Fresh.

Roulettes, King Kukulele, others at Spaceland. No disrespect to Frank Sinatra, but for many of us born in the 1960s, the recent death of Jack Lord was even more traumatic than the Chairman of the Board's high-profile demise. After all. until we were old enough to raid our parents record collections, Sinatra was little more than an abstract concept Jack Lord, on the other hand, was a fact of life; from 1 968 to 1 980, he played Hawaii Five-0 Steve McGarrett, easily the most debonair hombre on television. Sharp suits, granite jaw and that 4 unbelievable pile of jet-black hair McGarrett seemed the last bastion of true suavitude in a world of disheveled Columbos, obese Cannons and arthritic Barnaby Joneses.

Lord passing, like Sinatra's, marks the end of an era, and to help you achieve needed closure, tonight's musical tribute includes the stripped-down sounds of the Roulettes, a groovy folk-rock combo with ties to the Suburban Lawns and some of the state's finer penal institutions, and the tropical four-string stylings of King Kukulele. Oavid Corrick, considered by some to be the West Coast's leading Jack Lord authority, also reads selected poems to bongo accompa niment. Pull up a pineapple, and enjoy; Jack would've wanted it that way (Dan Epstein) WC at the House of Blues. WC. a powerhouse who's been rapping for over 10 years first in Low Profile, then the Madd Circle and more recently West Side Connection with Ice Cube and Mac 10 once epitomized the r-a-w, and flowed deep and wide over some of the more funky soul rhythms that LA hip-hop had to offer.
