Rumbaugh, Pergero Fang, and McCormick have been studying the progressive increase in the number of people coming into the emergency room of the medical center with typical symptoms of a stroke. What these four doctors found Is that the one thing the young stroke patients had in common was a history of drug abuse. young people, until recently, rarely had strokes. The four doctors went back over the admission records for the last three years and found similar correlations between stroke symptoms and drug taking. They found that the drug "speed" is often the one that the stroke patient bad been taking.

Other research physicians have also been reporting that this drug can quickly damage the arteries of the brain. It is apparently particularly dangerous when Injected into a vein in the arm, or "mainlined," as some people call this method of use. i 1, 'Could I have a note for the bus driver saying it's okay for me and Greg to play football on the bus? M-LI 464,6 Why Grow Old? Surgery Is Only Cure By DR. WALTER C. P. Jewell and S. C. Truelove treated 40 patients during the first period of their disease with prednisone (a drug much like cortisone) and prednisolone, given by way of the rectum. Each patient was at times given doses of the drug azathioprine.

Sometimes a drug Is given per rectum in a cream. 1 After a year of such treatment, II of the 20 who were given the azathioprine remain free of symptoms, and nine had one or more relapses. Only five of 20 who were not given the powerful drug remained free from symptoms. When an expert looked into the bowels of persons who had been, treated with azathioprine, with a lighted Aube passed into the rectum, he reported that he saw normal-looking bowels. DRUGS MAY DAMAGE ARTERIES I wish every young person who is thinking about using such illegal and dangerous drugs as (methamphetamine) could read the articles that a doctor such as me sees more and more frequently today, telling about the increasing amount of artery damage and typical stroke symptoms that are being seen in patients with a history of drug abuse.

A gunning hit of deception by South at the opening gun lured West into a fatal misstep at the next trick which handed over to the former his five heart dou-, bled contract. South opened the bidding with one heart and West with distributed values in the other suits points, made a takeout double. North's raise to two hearts confirms the trump fit and designates a holding with modest values, for with a good hand, he would obviously hAe redoubled. East's Jump to four spades on a hand worth a mere nine points In high cards and distribution was based on the reasonable assumption that his own values would fit In well with a partner whose takeout double had invited him to show an unhid suit. South, with his highly distributional holding, was reluctant to defend on the deal.

Since part. ner had tonfirmed a fit in hearts, there appeared little to gain in showing his second suit. South merely persisted to five hearts. Although West held minimum values for his original double and a relatively balanced holding, he relized that a pass at this point might be interpreted by partner al a willingness on his part to carry on to five spades. West felt, constrained to double five hearts to prevent East from making a move which might result in a substantial loss on the deal.

West opened the king of dia. monds and South paused to study the situation at length before playing from dummy.
