HOTEL SUTLER Stvinlh Avtnu* at 32nd and 33rd SlrMf* NEW YORK Eva Peron Ends Life Buenos Aires, Argentina (AP)-Juan Duarte, 38-year-old brother- in-law of President Juan D. Peron, committed suicide yesterday in his apartment, the government announced. He shot himself to death but the government statement gave no details on his wounds. The suicide of the late Eva Peron's brother created a sensation in Argentina, now in the midst of an economic crisis caused by the unrest of organized labor over rocketing prices. Duarte had been Peron's private secretary since the President came to power in 1946 until last Monday when he resigned giving poor health as the reason. Resigning at the same time was Jose Maria Freire, minister of labor and welfare in which office Eva Peron ran her million dollar enterprise --the Social Aid Foundation. In a letter he left behind for Peron he proclaimed he had been honest as a public servant and hit out against what he said was a rumor campaign "of . defamation and calumny." Crowds surged around the apartment building in fashionable Callao Street in downtown Buenos Aires when his death became known. Police quickly took over to preserve order. The letter Duarte left behind for Peron threw further light on the "rumor campaign" against the Peron government now facing its greatest economic crisis and defection in the ranks of the Peronista Party. He predicted he could stand the opposition to his policies inside and outside the country and would not be overthrown. The letter found beside Duarte's bullet-ridden body was addressed "to my dear General Peron." It said "the wickedness of some traitors to Peron" had tried to divide Duarte from, the president "by a campaign of defamation and calumny." The letter added that Peron had continued "friendly as ever" since Duarte resigned Monday. "I have been honest and nobody can .prove the contrary" it stated. (The word "honest" was emphasized in capital letters). "I say once more that the greatest man I have known is Peron." In the final -paragraph Duarte asked Peron to care for his mother and other relatives. "My last embrace is for my moiner and for you." Friends Visited. The official Annou Cement said Duarte was visited in his apartment Wednesday night by a number of friends including his two closest advisors, Raul Apold, director of the presidential press office, and Raul Marguerat, Peron's chief of protocol. His body was found yesterday morning when Rafael Francisco Amundarain, minister of industry and commerce went to the apart ment to calj on Duarte.
