Attention, further, is called to a modification of the curriculum, made to secure prompter aod more thorough results for students whose necessities require tbem to engage in ibe active pursuits of life without attempting a long and expensive course of studies. This school seeks to gire an education thorough and practical. I invite your attention to tbe plan of education of the Institute. In its "classical course," students are prepared, if desired, for our colleges or universities.

In its "regular course," involving the modern languages, and excluding the ancient languages, in order to give more time to English, mathematical and scientific studies, students are trained qualified in all essential principles to enter upon the duties of life. Bys and young men are further prepared for West Point and Annapolis. Above all, tbe Carolina Military Institute earnestly seeks to lay in the youth committed to it the basis of sound and solid character. Special attention is paid to the manners, tbe bearing, tbe habits and tbe ethics of the cadet. To the intellectual, moral and bodily improvement of the cadet, tbe Superintendent gives an experience of more than twenty years in the training of youtb.
