Indiana guard John Long was fined $3,000 for starting a fight with Boston's Rick Carlisle during a game Wednesday night, Carlisle, who retaliated with a punch, was fined $1,500.

Five-hundred dollar fines were levied aeainst Larrv Rirrf and FanFare Thomas, a 33-year-old long reliever, spent the entire 1986 season on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right elbow. Brown, 27, was acquired from Boston on Aug. 17 in a six-player deal that also brought pitcher Mike Trujillo, shortstop Ray Quinones and outfielder John Christiansen to the Mariners. Lloyd, husband separate FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.

Tennis star Chris Evert Lloyd and her husband John Lloyd have agreed to an amicable separation, the couple confirmed Friday. The separation, widely reported a month ago in the British tabloid, is the second for the couple in their eight-year marriage. They have been separated for three months, the couple told The Fort Lauderdale News and Sun-Sentinel. Tar Heal is suspended CHAPEL HILL, N.C. North Carolina tailback Derrick Fenner, the leading rusher in the Atlantic Coast Conference this past season, has been suspended from the Tar Heel football team for "academic reasons" and will miss the Aloha Bowl, Coach Dick Crum said.

The Associated Press The Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO The San Francisco 49ers' offense, with Joe Montana at the controls, has its old championship look heading into NFL the NFL playoffs. Coach Bill Walsh's team rolled for 408 yards, 238 on the passing of Montana, to beat the Los Angeles Rams 24-14 Friday night and snatch the NFC Western Division title away from the team which had been in first place most of the season. The next defensive unit to challenge Montana and the 49ers offense will be one of the league's best, either the Chicago Bears or the New York Giants, in an NFC semifinal playoff game the weekend of Jan.

3-4. "I think the 49ers have done a great job of going back to what they do so well. A few weeks ago, they were throwing 40 or 50 passes a game. Eric Dickerson of the Rams had 68 yards rushing, with one run of 15 yards for a TD, and finished the season with an NFL-high 1,821 yards. He was held under 100 yards by the 49ers a sixth consecutive time.

"The 49ers have had a very good run defense for the last three or four weeks, maybe the best I've seen," Robinson said. Greg Kite of the Celtics and Walker Russell and Stuart Gray of Indiana for leaving the bench area during that fight. No contract for Thomas SEATTLE The Seattle Mariners announced Friday that the team will not offer right-hander Roy Thomas a contract for the 1987 season. The American League team also said righthander Mike Brown has been outrighted to the club's triple-A affiliate, the Calgary Cannons. Williams, Wirkkala get hot as Fishermen beat Rockets, 67-57 the Kalama Chinooks to a 60-59 Trico League boys' basketball victory over Woodland here Friday.

The Chinooks, 4-3 overall, outscored the Beavers 21-16 in the final period. "Fred Bannister scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half and he had at least four field goals in a row in the fourth period," said Woodland Coach Jerry Deans. "Neiman scored four points and grabbed some big rebounds down the stretch and Yakovich scored seven of his nine points in the period." Kalama's pressure defense bothered Woodland, added Deans. The Beavers took an 18-5 lead after one quarter, but the Chinooks bounced back and knotted matters 25-all at intermission. "We jumped off to a good start; everything was going our way," said Deans.

"And in the second period, it was just the opposite. Everything went their way." Joining Bannister in double figures for Kalama were Bill Vossen with 15 points and Nieman with 13. High-point for Woodland was freshman Brad Ramey with 13. Don Swett and Paul McLendon added 10 apiece. Ramey also grabbed 16 rebounds.

"This was McLendon's best game of his career," said Deans. "He was five-for-five from the field, had three rebounds and one assist. We must have positive things like that from the bench." Kalama won the JV game 44-30. Woodland is 1-6 and 0-2. Prairie 65, Kelso 53 BRUSH PRAIRIE Prairie outscored Kelso 25-13 in the fourth quarter to nail down a 65-53 Greater St.

Helens Conference boys' basketball win here Friday night. "We worked hard. We had enough effort to win," Kelso Coach Rob Hippi said. "But we made some real crucial mistakes in the fourth quarter. We didn't get back on defense and we didn't block out on the boards." Kelso led 16-7 after the first quarter, but the Falcons tied it at the half, 24-24, and the battle was even at 40 going into the final quarter.

Despite its fourth-quarter rebounding collapse, Kelso as many boards as the Falcons 28. Prairie shot 23 of 45 (51 percent) from the field while Kelso netted only 22 of 55(40 percent). The Falcons connected on 19 of 26 73 percent) from the line, while Kelso netted nine of 13 (69 percent). Jason Radcliffe scored 17 points for Kelso, while Bob Middendorp tossed in 13 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and assisted on four buckets for the Scotties. Brian Davis added 10 points for Kelso.

Only five Falcons scored, four in double figures. Tom Rausch led with 24 points, followed by Mark Gustafson with 15, John Sexson with 13 and Scott Stuart with 11. Kelso won the junior varsity game 67-54 as Steve Anderson scored 22 points for the Scotties. Kelso, 2-4, next plays at R.A. Long Jan.

6. Ducks 59, Mules 54 CATHLAMET Toutle Lake took an early 15-3 lead and Wahkiakum never caught up as the Ducks won a 59-54 Central League boys' basketball victory here Friday night. "We started out real poorly," Wahkiakum Coach Paul Spears said. "We never overcame that. We hustled real well, but just didn't shoot well enough to win." The Mules came to within two points of Toutle, but never tied the game.

"Actually, it was a pretty even game after that first quarter," Toutle Coach Scott Grabenhorst said. The Mules made only 20 of 58 shots (34 percent). Toutle Lake hit 24 of 51 (47 percent). "They shot real well and rebounded real well," Spears said of the Ducks. Both teams had trouble at the foul line.

Toutle hit 11 of 21 and Wahkiakum made 14 of 25. John Schaures scored 20 points and Brian Holland add ed 12 for Toutle. Holland also had 15 rebounds. "He had just a good, solid, all-around night," Grabenhorst said. Rex Gilbertsen led the Mules with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Ron Wika added 11 points. "It was a typical December-type game," Grabenhorst said. "Both teams have a lot of room for improvement." Both squads are now 3-1 in league play. The Ducks, 4-1 overall, host Mossyrock Tuesday. The Mules, 4-4, are at Morton.

Wahkiakum won the junior varsity game, 62-40, as Doug Souvenir and Pete LaBerge scored 14 apiece. Clatskanie 82, Vernonia 65 CLATSKANIE Gary Points came off the bench to net 20 points and play stingy defense to lead the Clatskanie past the Vernonia Loggers, 82-65, in boys' non-league basketball here Friday. The Tigers, 3-2, trailed 21-17 after one period, led 38-35 at intermission and upped the margin to 57-46 after three. Vernonia narrowed the gap to seven points in the fourth period before Clatskanie pulled away. Points, who connected on 8 of 16 attempts from the field, was joined in double figures for the Tigers by Mitch Warren with 19, Kelly Ross with 12 and Dan Buckhalterwith 10.

Warren and Buckhalter grabbed seven rebounds apiece for the winners. Ross had seven assists. High point for Vernonia was Furl McMillan with 20. Bob Zavales added 15 points, but only four came in the second half when Points was guarding him. Clatskanie was 32 of 86 from the field (37 percent) and 18 of 27 from the line.

Vernonia was 26-64 (41 percent) and 13-18 at the line. Clatskanie won the JV game 59-43. The Tiger JVs are 5-0. Clatskanie's next game is at home Dec. 30 against Knappa.

ILWACO The tandem of Lonnie Williams and Gary Wirkkala did it again Friday night as the Ilwaco Fishermen outscored Castle Rock 34-17 in the second half for a 67-57 win in boys' basketball here. Williams scored a game high 26 Bovs' points and hauled in 16 rebounds. Although Wirkkala struggled to an 8 DaSKCtDail for 30 shooting performance, he still scored 21 points and is now averging 30 points a game. Williams averages 18.3 per game. In a game that was basically divided in two, Castle Rock jumped to a 23-16 first quarter lead and led 40-33 at intermission.

But the Rockets went cold in the second half as Ilwaco tied the game at 50-50 after three quarters. Ilwaco took total control in the final period as it outscored Castle Rock 17-7. Steve Pond led the Rockets with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Ed Bate and Scott Jones added 14 and 10 points, respectively. Castle Rock shot 17 of 36 in the first half and 7 of 27 in the second half for a total of 24 for 63 (38.1 percent). Ilwaco fared no better, hitting only 37.7 percent of its shots (26-69).

The win ups Ilwaco to 4-2 on the season and drops Castle Rock to 3-3. Castle Rock won the JV game, with Kevin Johnson scoring 19 points for the Rockets and Bob Byrd leading Ilwaco with 15 points. Ilwaco next travels to Tacoma Baptist on December 27 and Castle Rock hosts its own invitational with Ridgefield taking on Orting in game one on December 26 at 4:30. Castle Rock then follows with a game against NeahBay. Kalama 60, Woodland 59 WOODLAND Fred Bannister, Eric Yakovich and Duane Neiman took charge in the fourth period to lead Kelso coach credits CR wrestlers after Scots gain narrow victory Matt Broomhead (168) tried to start another Rocket run with a 7-5 decision over Cal Miller but Kelso's Mike Sherman (178) put a stop to it and cinch the Hilander win with a pin of Chris Bishop.

Castle Rock won the final two matches of the night as Skot Jones 190) pinned Jeff Tollefson at 1: 13 of the third round and Phil Johnson hvy defeated Jerry Doble 3-1. "Jim Bair has a real good solid program up there," said Hamm. "His kids will come along. They are a young team." Friday's win for Kelso Ham 's first over the Rockets. "This is the fourth time in four years we've wrestled them," said Hamm.

"It's nice to win and it's nice the kids got some real quality competition." Kelso won the JV match 41-25. Kelso, 4-3, will take a JV squad to the Columbia River JV tournament. The whole squad goes to R.A. Long Jan. 6.

ROCKETS WIN AT INVITE Castle Rock defeated Toutle Lake 70-52, and Ilwaco downed Warrenton, Ore-Friday to set up tonight's game between CR and Ilwaco for the championship of the Ilwaco Invitational. No score or details were reported from the Ilwaco victory, Kristen Hovde paced Castle Rock against Toutle Lake by scoring 26 points on 13 of 18 shooting from the floor. Teammate Julie Woodruff had 16 points, six assists and just one turnover. "We played pretty well," said CR Coach Sam Baxter. "We shot 31 of 72 from the field and eight of 14 at the line.

Both of those numbers are pretty good for us." Toutle Lake was 23 of 61 from the floor and six of 16 at the line. Lisa Neuneker and Darcy Wheeler had 14 points each for the losers, while Kara Grabenhorst added 10. Today's consolation game between Toutle Lake and Warrenton was set to start at 4:00, while CR and Ilwaco meet tonight at 6:00. CASTLE ROCK Friday's non-league wrestling match between Kelso and Castle Rock was expected to be exciting and turned out that way as the Hilanders nipped the Rockets 34-27. "It was a very thrilling match," said Kelso coach Jerry Hamm.

"There were some very close matches, especially in the middle weights." Kelso won three out the first four matches with, it's lone loss a forfeit at 101 pounds to Castle Rock's Jeff Traver. Kirk Loftus (108) racked up the first Hilander victory on a pin of Mark Page at 1:28 in the second round. Kurt Nemeyer (115) made it two pins in a row when he put Mike Jones on his back in the first round. Jim Stewart (122) followed Nemeyer with a pin of his own over Rob Flick in the second round and the score stood 18-6, Kelso. The next two matches were the "best of the night" according to Hamm.

At 129 pounds, Kelso's Mike Giberson and Castle Rock's Jamie Tiegs wrestled to a 2-2 draw. "It was zero to zero in the first and second rounds and then Giberson got a escape and Tiegs got a penalty point to make it 1-1," said Hamm. "Both wrestlers received a stalling penalty. That's what the referee said. They were both trying as hard as they could.

It was a very good match." Following that standoff, Castle Rock's Mike Jones and Kelso's Bill Langenbach took to the mat for the 135-pound match. The two battled it out before Jones outscored the Hilander 6-3 in the third period to secure a 11-5 decision. The Rockets won the next two matches as Steve Terry (141) defeated Dennis Stacy 12-2 and Todd Morgan (148) handed Jerry Johnson a 15-3 defeat. Kelso's Stacy Comer (158) ended the Rocket string with a 6-4 decision over Kevin Finkas. The match was tied at 4-4 when Comer came up with a takedown with 20 seconds left in the third period.

Fort rolls past Monarchs VANCOUVER Fort Vancouver outscored Mark Morris 20-8 in the second period and rolled to a 66-34 Greater St. Helens Conference girls' basketball win here Friday night. n. Laurie Merlino scored 14 of her UluS feadlhefraSs11.15 basketball Despite the loss, Monarch Coach Bob Bagaason said, "We learned a lot of stuff about our team. We were able to rebound with their big girls and we found out that Merlino couldn't go to her left very well.

We capitalized on that in the second half. "Erin Walling was the main person guarding Merlino all night and she did a superb job in the second half. Then Carol Smith came in and relieved her and she was also excellent." Sheri Noah was also a defensive standout according to her coach. The Monarchs' main problem was shooting as they hit only 13 of 48 shots (27 percent). Amy Piper led the Monarchs with 10 points and Michele Hayes added nine.

The loss leaves MM 1-2 in league play. Fort won the JV game 55-20. Bagaason said Heather Hopkins played well both offensively (eight points) and defensively for MM. Fort also won the frosh game, 41-26. Trina Moore led MM with 11 points.

Mark Morris faces Ridgefield Friday at 3 p.m. in the Castle Rock Tournament. JILLS FALL TO CHIEFTAINS R.A. Long shot only 25.4 percent from the field and lost 58-45 at Columbia River in a Greater St. Helens Conference girls' basketball game at Vancouver Friday.

Although the Lumberjills shot 13-for-19 (68 percent) from the free-throw line, RAL connected on only 16 of 63 attempts from the field. "That's where we came up short," Long Coach Randy Lemiere said. "We had a lot of close shots, but we just didn't put them in the hoop." Lisa Boe led RAL with 16 points and nine rebounds, including 8-for-10 shooting at the free-throw line. Joani Rooklidge added 10 points (4-for-7 at the line) and Annie Ofstun added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Julie Rice led the Chieftains with 21 points.

Columbia River beat the Lumberjills 38-34 in the junior varsity game. Lisa Betts scored 13 points and nine rebounds for RAL and Michelle Hayes added eight points and seven steals. R.A. Long, 0-3 in league and 1-4 overall, hosts Kelso Jan. 5.

FALCONS BOMB LASSIES The Prairie Falcons outscored Kelso 30-8 in the first half en route to a 55-31 Greater St. Helens Conference girls' basketball game win at Kelso Friday. The Lassies turned the ball over 28 times, a statistic that coach Ray Berg said "was the big factor. They had half-court pressure on us in the first half and we turned the ball over." Kelso also had problems finding the middle of the hoop. One for seven was the best the Lassies could do in both the first and the second quarters.

They finished 11 of 36 for 31 percent from the field and nine of 18 from the line. Deanna Stokes led Kelso with seven points. Kari Croco netted six and Kris Berg five. The Lassies outrebounded the Falcons 25-22 as Stokes grabbed six boards and Kim Pleasant snared five. The loss drops the Lassies to 1-2 in league and 3-2 overall.

Prairie also won the JV contest 30-21. Marci Adams had eight points and Michelle Thompson five rebounds. Kelso's next game is Jan. 5, when it travels to R.A. Long.

MORTON BLASTS WOODLAND Morton blasted Woodland 54-24 at home Friday night in a non-league girls' basketball game. Woodland fumbled away 34 turnovers and took only 27 shots to Morton's 54. "They were aggressive defensively. We just played poorly," said Woodland Coach Steve Hansen. Morton's Wendy Murphy outscored the entire Woodland team with 25 points.

Shannon Craig added 17 for the Huskies. Lori Guthrie was the Beavers' high scorer with 14 points. Castle Rock players are defensive backs Ed Bate and Steve Soladey, tight end Plancich and lineman Bryan Traub. Winlock second-teamers are offensive linemen -Lenord Robins and Steve Anderson, kicker Sam Meyers, defensive lineman Scott Wade and linebacker Jess Bowers. Bowl and Entertainment Center in Tacoma. Dale Wiitala, Naselle, is playing professional basketball in Australia. Wiitala is 26. Rick Sweet, Longview, has been named to manage the Bellingham Mariners, Seattle's entry in the Northwest League. Sweet will retain his job as the Seattle Mariners' advance scout until June when the Northwest League season begins. The Daily News Sports Department failed to receive a game report from Rainier boys' basketball coach Rob Silver on his team's 64-46 loss to Hood River Valley Friday.

The Daily also failed to receive a report from Winlock boys basketball Coach Larry Hearst on his team 's game at Adna. Castle Rock's Craig Reeder started and scored 13 points to help Clark College beat Mount Hood College 84-76 in overtime Friday. Reeder, a frosh, had 13 points, four assists and five steals for Clark. The Rainier Rod and Gun Club will hold a turkey shoot Sunday at 11 a.m. The Cowlitz Gun Club will hold a public trap shoot Sunday at 10 a.m.
