For Talbert is a diabetic and has has had to take insulin shots since he was ten years old. Diabetes hasn't interfered much with Talbert's athletic prowess. He has been for many years an international star winning an impressive list of championships. In 1942, he and Gardner Mulloy won the National Men's Doubles Championship and repeated this victory in 1945, 1946 and 1948. In 1942 and from 1944 to 1946 he and his partner won the Clay Court Championship.

Talbert won the Men's Clay Court singles in 1945 and was Men's Indoor Singles Championship in 1948 and 1951. Billy Talbert's life gives the lie to the old belief that a diabetic cannot eat or live or, exercise normally. Talbert not only lives with his diabetes, but diabetes has Indirectly helped make him a tennis champion that he is. Main Monongahela, Pa. 4 Monessen Alderman Called By Death Joseph Sistck, 80-vear-oid First Ward Monessen alderman, died at IiIh homo fit 235 SchoonmnkiM' Avenue there Thursday after an illness of severnl months, Death occurred at 7:15 o'clock In the eve- ZOOS ARE SECURE This brief but significant little item appeared on the. editorial page of the Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Record: "Pour zoo-reared timber wolves, members of a normally proud and resourceful species, were reduced to raiding garbage cans when released in a wooded island in Lake Superior recently. The security of life in the zoo apparently had deadened their initiative and they could no longer depend on their hunting Instincts to pro vide food. Which should teach a moral: 'People, too, can be pampered and petted too much." That is a telling commentary on the "cradle to the grave" se curity philosophy.

What it always produces is the deadly security of the zoo or the jail. NOT SO SIMPLE Why do people patronize one store and pass right by the doors of another store? The head of an association which represents food chains gave a general answer to that question in these Words: "People like to do business with people they like. It is almost as simple as that-but the processes by which you get people to like you may not be simple. Public opinion is the combination of many likes and dislikes, many attitudes, many act. Public opinion determines where people spend their money day ofter day; public opinion influences what stores will be profitable, what stores will fail." Different people, obviously, want and seek different kinds of goods, different kinds of services, different attractions of many sorts.

Back of all the promotional and public relations activities of the merchant, from advertising to improved employee training, is the desire to attract as many people into his store as pos-sible-in other words, to make people like him. And that will always be true so long as we hove a free market and open competition. FOR FAST RESULTS ail Your Uant Ad Today TO THE DAILY REPUBLICAN CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING DEPARTMENT MONONOAHSLA, PA.
