'T' The Original Ti'n 0 7 DEAL Fish Restaurant SjjDecia'Hnzzfiimg nun Sea IFcnxnxdl Since 1917 OLDEST SEAFOOD RESTAURANT IN SANTA CRUZ At the entrance to the Santa Cruz Fishermen's Wharf the original Ideal Fish Restaurant was opened in 1917 making us the oldest fish restaurant in Santa Cruz. Our progress through these 39 years has not been stopped by either man or nature's elements even though we succumbed to the ocean in 1 924, survived the depression of 1 929, rebuilt from the boiler explosion in 1941, and withstood a tidal wave, earthquakes, and our recent flood. KNOWN THE WORLD OVER People from every state in the union and from all parts of the globe have enjoyed our famous fish dinners served in a truly marine atmosphere at the water's edge overlooking beautiful Monterey Bay. Joseph Olivieri and Angelo Rossi own the Ideal with An-gelo the acting manager. We take pride in maintaining a high standard through quality in food, satisfactory service, and congenial atmosphere.

FAMOUS DISH DEVELOPED In recent years we developed a Seafood Platter which has added international fame. This tasty dish was originated by the Ideal's chef as the answer to so many patrons asking, "Which fish should I choose?" Thus was born this Seafood Platter attractively garnished and containing six different varieties of fish and shell fish from the adjoining Monterey Bay. Added enjoyment are the good spirits engendered by the Ideal's "Ring the Bell" innovation. In fact, "Ring the Bell" has become a slogan for the thirsty. When you dine with us, ask to "Ring the Bell." You'll be surprised and delighted.

For your added pleasure we have an attractive lounge just off the entrance where you may relax in comfort while waiting for a table. HAS OWN FISHING FLEET One of the greatest adjuncts to the Ideal is our own fishing fleet which supplies the restaurant and retail fish market with daily catches from the sea. At the water's edge you will sit at our tables and watch through our expansive windows the beauty of the rolling waves breaking over the surf and tumbling to shore. Our interior marine atmosphere includes many unusual items such as ship's gear and sea life which bring added interest to your dining enjoyment. Around the upper sections of the walls are marine paintings depicting life above and below the surface of the sea.

MAHINESCAPE, LEGEND The story of the origin of these marinescapes has become legendary even in the few years since the late and unlamented depression days. One day a stranger chanced to enter the Ideal. He stood for a moment, glanced around the interior, and unexpectedly offered to decorate the walls with marine pictures in return for his food. He was promptly accepted. Speedily this stranger got under way with paint and brushes.

As the weeks rolled by, there appeared attractive, colored, miniature murals on the walls portraying life of those who go down to the sea. When the last picture was painted, he signed it, "Joem," laid down his pot and brushes and disappeared never to be seen around here again. Vith pride we welcome the world to our tables, secure In the knowledge that they will carry away happy memories of good dining on beautiful Monterey Bay..
