They Sea Scout Cutter Radios For Help Off Pt. Conception Santa Barbara, Sept. 10 VP) A cruising Sea Scout cutter, the Barclay Stephens of Alameda, radioed the coast guard for help Friday in heavy seas off Point Conception. A rescue cutter left here immediately, expecting a two-hour run. It said the ship seemed to be in no great danger.

Bill Kerr, skipper of the 50-foot converted coast guard ship, radioed yesterday that one engine had gone out and he would return to Santa Barbara. But this morning he reported that the second engine also was giving trouble, and he'd be unable to make port without aid. The 17 sea scouts aboard are on an annual cruise, which took them We have them are Russell Fillner and J. L. Meeks.

Saving for Hospital Budget Other suggestions made by Dr. Trimble and approved by the board, was the canncellation from the 1949-50 county budget the following articles for purchase: Two wheel chairs at $120: 24 1 I 'MX mw TOP Movie Projector Hospital Out Of During their record five-hour session last week, the supervisors approved a list of articles for purchase out of the Ole Ravnos fund, as requested by Dr. H. E. Trimble, county hospital medical director and administrator.

Such a list had been urged by the administrators of the Ole Ravnos estate, which consisted of about $23,000 left to the county hospital. Ravnos left the money with the verbal stipulation that it be spent for things that people who have to go there would not otherwise be able to have. Of the original $23,000. last year the supervisors spent $10,000 of the amount for standard equipment, which would necessarily have been purchased out of tax money, if the Ravnos fund had not been available. There were innumerable written and verbal objections to this procedure.

Suggested By Trimble Last week the following articles suggested by Dr. Trimble were approved: Six wheel chairs at $360; 24 overbed trays at S732; 15 foot stools Smith Corona Portables overbed trays at $732 and 15 foot stools at $142.50. Money which these articles would have cost was left in the hos pital budget for other hospital equipment to be specifically re quested later upon the medical di rector's request. He also had one more suggestion to make which was approved by the i supervisors: "I recommend that the authoriz ation for $750 for construction of an animal house be changed, to be used for materials for facilities for CLIPPERS STERLING SILENTS the care of laboratory animals, our chase of cages and auxiliary equip afHfinj TO 100 PUR ment ana tor material tor the construction of a suitable shed for garbage cans and garbage can cleansing, with the work to be done by hospital labor wholly or for the most part." During the same session the board also set the per day charge for pay patients at the county hospital at $13.50. Skeggs, highway engi Set Hearing On Soil Conservation District Sept. 23 Hearing on the petition for the formation of the Redwood soil conservation district was continued this week by the supervisors until their next regular meeting September 23, upon motion of Supervisor Frank Oettl. This was the second time that the matter had been continued. When it was first initiated, Supervisor Oettl asked more time to study the matter as he said he was not familiar with it.

This week a letter was received from a resident on the Laurel Glen road who asked, to be excluded from the district. The territory to be included in the soil conservation district is a large section of the county, entering three supervisorial districts skirting the city of Santa Cruz. Currently it is slated to include a small section of the city of Capi-tola, but this will be deleted before the boundaries are established at the next board meeting. This area was included in the proposed district before Capitola became a city. According to the information given-this week, the district will not be subject to tax levy, although there is provision for a maximum tax of two cents on each $100 assessed valuation, if the five-man board of directors deems it necessary.

At the September 23 meeting, the district lines will be established, election officers will be named and the date for the election set.
