Postmaster: Send address changes to Customer Service, PO Box 94090, Albuquerque, NM 87199-9940 NEW CASTLE – Po- lice say a convicted burglar was at it again in New Castle. Joseph J. “Jody” Ja- cobs, 29, of the 900 block of Sunset Drive has been charged with attempted burglary, auto theft and two counts of criminal mischief in Henry Cir- cuit Court 1. Authorities said they were already searching for Jacobs – then a suspect in the theft of a pickup truck, from outside the Speed- way conve- nience store, 1800 Broad St. – on June 13 when they received a report of an attempted break- in at a house in the 1400 block of H Ave- nue. Witnesses there – who later identified Jacobs as the man they saw fleeing from the scene – reported he had tried to kick open a locked back door, causing significant damage to the door frame. Jacobs was taken into custody a short time later near Roose- velt and J avenues, where he was observ- ed walking and “carry- ing flowers.” Police said it was determined Jacobs was wearing the pre- scription eyeglasses of the owner of the stolen pickup truck. He also had that man’s keys, and was wearing “women’s bracelets” that investigators said belonged to the truck owner’s granddaugh- ters. The stolen Ford F-350 truck was found parked nearby. Its owner said tools, val- ued at $3,000, were missing from the vehi- cle, and that it had ap- parently sustained damage to its engine compartment. Police said Jacobs became “aggressive” at the New Castle Po- lice Department when an officer tried to remove the stolen bracelets from his wrist. Jacobs received a Sept. 16 trial date from Circuit Court 1 Judge Bob Witham. He was being held in the Hen- ry County jail on Sat- urday under a $20,500 surety bond and $1,700 cash bond. The New Castle man’s criminal record includes convictions for burglary, intimida- tion and theft. Douglas Walker is a news reporter at The Star Press.
