A picnic luncheon was enjoyed by about sixty on Friday of last week. It was given by the Matrons' Red Cross Auxiliary at the Community Rooms. Rogers and Union avenues. All had a good time. In the afternoon the ladles made surgical dressings, making the day a profitable one as well as sociable.

He stopped for a few days with his- parents in Bath Beach and has now gone on to Madison, Wisconsin, on a business trip. He will be gone about two weeks. His brother, Wharton who was also away with him, has returned and Is stopping with his parents. The Phtpps are old Bedfordltes, having lived for years on Greene avenue. -t-Mrs.

Edwards of Macon street near Maroy avenue has left for her summer home at Lake Pleasant. She left the city on Saturday and will not return un til the fall. Mr. and Mrs: II. N.

Matthews and family of Putnam avenue are spending the summer months at Fort Trumbull Beach, Conn. Dr. and Mrs. Jackman of 754 St. John's place have left the city for the summer accompanied by their charming daughter, Miss Mildred Jackman.

They took an automobile trip to Kingston, staying for a few days and then came back to the city, leaving again for Kingston for the summer. Dr. Moore, pastor of the Marcy Avenue Baptist Church, Marcy and Putnam avenues, has charge of the Missionary Conference being held at Silver Bay, and left the city with the delegates Thursday. Among the delegates from the Marcy Avenue Baptist Church are: Miss Carrie Lumpe, Miss Ida Smith, Miss Frances Robins, Miss Harriet F. Hale.

Mrs. Searles of Hancock street has been visiting her mother In Silver Plains during the past week. For the benefit of the Brooklyn Training School and Home for Girls, a rummage sale was held under the direction of the Board of Managers on Satur day at 1090 Fulton street. The ladles worked very hard and realized $325. They are anticipating holding another sale in the fall.

The ladies of the Invincible Euchre Club are still talking of the good time they had at the annual outing held at Port Washington. The party went In a large touring car, getting to Port Washington in time for dinner. After a pleasant afternoon, when they played cards and pretty prizes weret given the winners, all' started for home, arriving at Trommer's at 8 clock, for supper. Mrs. Lewis M.

A splendid meeting was held with a large attendance in snite of it being vacation time. The work for the month of June was finished and the following articles were turned in: one thousand bags, six hundred arm slings (triangles), seven hundred oom presses, twenty-five knitted articles. The auxiliary is making a drive lor one hundred members. Six new members were added Tuesday night, making a total of ninety-eight. Among the new names are those ot Mrs.

wuiiam xi Hamilton and Mrs. W. C. Good. The truest of the evening was Mrs.

McLean of Winnepeg, Canada. Mrs. McLean is a sister of Mrs. May Asseltine of Greene avenue, a member of the auxiliary. She haa promised to give a little talk at the next meeting on Tuesday, telling about the Red Cross conditions In her part of Canada.

The auxiliary Is planning for a monster block party the end of July. Arrangements are being made now. There will be articles sold, dano- ine and an entertainment and It is ex pected the big Kismet Tempi Band, of one hundred pieces, will play. Tne members of the auxiliary will wear their Red Cross uniforms and it will maka a pretty sight It is a known fact that Kismet Temple people are wide awake and whatever they do Is sure to be a big success. Further particulars will be printed later.

Lauffer, the corner Broadway and Welrfleld street druggist, recently appointed recruiting agent tor the U. S. Shipping Board to enroll young men in for service in the Merchant Marine, received and executed his official oath of office. He will use his store as a recruiting station, and will "sign on" husky young Americana between 21 and 30 for training on a squadron of school ships maintained by the Shipping Board. The training is preliminary to service on merchant vessels for the duration of the war, and the men enrolled for it are exempted from the draft.

Mr. Mess was home on a furlough from Texas and left Thursday afternoon to Join his squadron at Barron Field, Fort Worth Texas.

The place was appropriately decorated in red, white and blue. evening waa spent in singing, dancing and playing games. And at midnight a bountiful super waa served, after which the guests departed. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs.
