The monthly meeting of the borough council will be held at the municipal building, this Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Annexation matters will be widely discussed. Beverly Bice of 1409 Allegheny street, has accepted a clerical position in the plant offices of the Beli Telephone company at Altoona. Miss Bice was formerly employed as a telephone operator in the local office. Twyliah Hammaker, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs, Herbert Ham-maker of 509 Jones street, was feted with a family dinner yesterday in honor of her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Beegle of 809 Spruce street, and Mr. and Mrs.

Eugene Beegle of 523 Pine street, have returned from a vacation spent in Canada. Lois P. Metzler of 310 Walnut street, a junior at Pennsylvania State college, was named in the honor roll, also known as the dean's list. Miss Metzler is majoring in education. She had an average of 2.77.

Mr. and Mrs. Staunton C. Funk, former Hollidaysburg residents, now residing in the Panama Canal zone announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Sue Morgan Funk, to Frank Nicholas Scelzi, of Manhasset, Long Island, Y. Miss Funk is a graduate of Hollidaysburg High school, attended the Pennsylvania State College for Women in Philadelphia and was graduated this year from the Katherine Gibbs school in Chicago.

Mr. Scelzi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank F. Scelzi, is a student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich.

J. Lee Brannen, 413 Lindsey street, Hollidaysburg, has been assigned to the Message Center of the Wdmen's Army Corps Training Center, Camp Lee, it was announced by Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Smith. Commanding Officer of the Training Center. Sgt. Dodson enlisted in the WAC (then the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps) in April 1943 at Altoona.

She was discharged from the Women's Anny Auxiliary Corps to enlist in the Women's Army Corps at Fort Devens, in August 1943. Sgt. Dodson accepted her second discharge in August 1948 at the General Hospital, San Francisco, for the purpose of reenlisting in the Regular Army the following day. Sgt. Dodson holds the Good Conduct Medal; WAAC Service Ribbon; World war II Victory Ribbon: American Theater Ribbon and the Meritorious Service Unit Award.

Sgt. Dodson is a graduate of Holiidaysburg Junior High school, Hollidaysburg. Since she has been in the service she has attended the Motor Transport School at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. Prior to enlisting in the Army she was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Roundhouse as a Machinists Helper, at Altoona, Pa. Sgt.

Dodson is a member of the Patriotic Order of America. Southern Blair Scouts Slate Rally Dec. 4 The Southern Blair district of the Boy Scouts of America, of which Roaring Spring, Martins-burg, Williamsburg and Clays-burg are a part, held its monthly meeting last Tuesday night. District chairman, Doyle D. Grace, of Roaring Spring, was in charge, with 18 other members of the board present.

Ray Lynn, chairman of the camping activities, reported plans for a district roundup and rally on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Roaring Spring High school gymnasium. Ralph Isenberg, chairman of organization and reported that two new cub packs have been organized in Roaring Spring. However the district still needs a scout troop and a senior unit to reach the district objective in membership. It was reported that a new scout troop is in the process of organization at Clays-burg, but senior units are needed at Roaring Spring and Williamsburg.

Claud Barnard, chairman of training, reported the first session of the scouter's training course will be held in connection with the district meeting on October -26. Plans are also underway to have a cub leaders training course this Fall. J. Ray Smith, chairman of advancement, announced that the district court of honor will be held at Martinsburg on Sunday evening, Oct. 31.

The chairman of the finance committee, Melvin Garber, reported an additional $100 to the council finance drive which brings Roaring Spring's total to more than S300. It was announced that the council's finance drive for 1949 will be held during Boy Scout week, which comes in February. Altoona Corporal Is Stationed in Japan WITH THE EIGHTH ARMY IN OSAKA. Japan Cpl. Calvin Bell, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Calvin Bell, of 1420 Washington avenue, Altoona, is a member of the 24th Infantry Regiment, now stationed at Gifu, Japan. The 24th Infantry is a part of the 25th Infantry (Tropic Lightning) Division, commanded by Major General William B. Keen. Cpl.

Bell is a rifleman in Hq. Co. 1st and is now on summer maneuvers at the base of Mt. Fugi, Japan's most famous mountain. Cpl.

Bell entered the Army in October 1939, received his basic training at Fort Benning, and departed for overseas duty in November 1946. Before entering the service Cpl. Bell attended Hampton Institute. New Woodbury Highway Grading Work Completed Fine grading work on the Woodbury-W'aterside highway operations were completed last week from Woodbury to Rep-logle mill. The New Enterprise Stone and Lime company, which is the state contractor for the rebuilding of the road started applying stone dust to the road Friday.

Following the coating of dust a larger stone base will be laid and another layer of stone dust will be placed on this. Blacktop material will not be placed until spring. However, when the second layer of stone dust is placed, the highway will be open to through traffic. Alexandria. Egypt.

Paul Andrews, son of Mrs. Ida Andrews, 1016 Cameron avenue, has registered as a fresn-man at the Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, and is now attending classes. Mrs. Barbara Hartsock, Pit-cairn, has returned home after' a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Jess Brennanmi, Bald Eagle avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Simp-kins, Washington, D. have returned after visiting Mr.

and Mrs. Ralph Bonsell, East Hera id street, and also attending the funeral services of the late James Brumbaugh. James Shade, Washington, D. is visiting with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.

Mabel E. Goss, 536 Nineteenth street, is a patient in the Philipsburg State hospital, where she submitted to a major operation. Helen Keatley, daughter cf Mr. and Mrs. John B.

Keatley, Lincoln avenue, left Friday morning for Bakersfield, California, where she will be met by her fiance, Francis M. Lehner, formerly of Tyrone. The couple will be married in the near future. Mr. and Mrs.

Austin Near-hoof, Adams avenue, have returned from Brownsville, where they visited with their aunt. Mrs. Laura Nearhoof, S4. a patient in the Brownsville hospital. Tanza Mannino, 900 Pennsylvania avenue, returned home on Thursdav after an extended visit in the state of California.

Announcements have been received in Tyrone of the marriage of Miss Lucy Camelita and Paul Maver in Gallitzin. on Oct. 9. Mr. Mayer is well known in Tyrone and Alltoona.

Mrs. Kate Dison, Ridge avenue, submitted to an operation for appendicitis at the Altoona hospital on Thursday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Lienhardt, West Fifteenth street, were guests at a dinner, honoring their respective birthday anniversaries, at the Lair Inn, Tipton on Tuesday evening.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Guyer W. Elder, Mr. and Mrs.

Hugh F. Tobin, and Mr. and Mrs. Gus Lienhardt. Mrs.

Eyer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Gallagher, Woodland avenue. Mrs. Eyer is one of the house mothers at the school.

Charles Miles, Lewistown, retired operator on the Middle Division, visited with relatives in Tyrone this week. Mr. and Mrs. Miles are planning to again spend the winter months in Miami, Florida. kiwaiiis Club to Hear Pittsburg Editor Andrew Bernhard, editor of the Pittsburg Post-Gazette, will be the main speaker at the weekly noon' luncheon meeting of the Kiwanis club at the Penn Alto hotel Wednesday, Secretary O.
