Page 5 lii SoEiBfeiiiiiSv pre Medical Center to Hold Alumni Night Oct. 10; Lecture Begins 8:30 Mi taml Diniaar Vellics Named to Hew Protestant Post Kostas Vellics, first vice president of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Three Hierarchs, Brooklyn, has been named journal chairman for the sixth annual testimonial dinner of the Brooklyn Division of the Protestant Council, to be held on Thursday, November 14th, 6:30 P.M. Frederick L. Kopff, a director of the Brooklyn Division of the Protestant Council, will be the guest of honor at the dinner, to take place in the grand ballroom of the Hotel rSt. George.

Howard Kessler and Raymond C. Ellis will be co-chairmen. Ray C. Klein, general chairman of the Division's 1963 $126,000 fund raising drive, said dinner York Medical College. Dr.

Levine will' speak on "Metabolic Deviations of Diabetes Mellitus Newer Concepts." The meeting, first in what it is hoped will be an annual affair sponsored by the Alumni Association, will be financed by a grant from E. Squibb Co. Admission to the lecture and the collation to follow will be free to call alumni, faculty, students, and members of the medical profession at large. The lecture will begin at 8:30 P.M. in the Alumni Memorial Hall of the Downstate Medical Center's Basic Sciences Building, 450 Clarkson Avenue, Brooklyn.

The Alumni Association of the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn will hold its first Alumni Night on Thursday evening, Octoer 10, it has been announced by Dr. Dennis J. Fioren-tino, President of the Association. Valerioti has served the community mayors groups for 15 years. Boas Into Operation The first push button telephone in New York State went into operation on Monday, Oct. 7, as World's Fair president Robert Moses pressed out WF 4-1964 the Fair's official telephone number on a Touch-Tone telephone.

The telephone that Mr. Moses used was flown to the Fair from ihe White House, where it had been used by President Kennedy last April to start the Fair's one-year countdown. Robert M. Burke, vice president of New York Telephone's Long Island urea, presented the telephone to Mr. Moses for his use.

The introduction of Touch-Tone telephones at the Fair signifies the first major push button telephone installation in the Unit States. More than 3,000 Touch-Tone telephones will be installed at the Fair; all exhibitors will be able to subscribe to the service. About 800 public telephones on the fair grounds will be equipped with Touch-Tone. They will be the first push button public telephones in the United States. The main advantages of Touch-Tone are speed, ease ond convenience of operation.

New York Telephone estimates a number with seven digits can be touch-toned in two to five seconds compared with an average ten sec-ends on the telephone dial. The Fair is also equipped -with centrex a dial telephone service that gives exhibitors and Fair officials separate numbers that can be dialed directly. The fair grounds are served by a new central office building in Corona. Touch-Tone service will be gradually introduced throughout New York State in coming years.
