2... BROOKLYN HEIGHTS PRESS, June 28, 1962 I ttl A I 10th 'Holiday' Award waaman laza is Mpprovea After Seven-Year Hitch the site. Advanced last September by architect Percival Goodman, the proposal quickly won the praise of many local residents. However, city officials remained cool to the idea, despite several impassioned pleas for it at public hearings. 1 I v3 drew the fire of the Brooklyn Heights Assn.

and the Cadman Plaza Co Operative mainly on the grounds that it would entail additional delay to the basic plan. Mr. Stark said he had hoped to save the 57-unit dwelling, which is valued at $500,000, and instead have the city acquire the properties at 3 Monroe PI. and 100 Clark whose combined value, he said, was $82,000. If Mr.

Stark's idea had been accepted, it would have provided an ironic twist for the owner of 3 Monroe Dr. Maxwell Lanes. At public hearings on Cadman Dr. Lanes had spoken against the Title I project and had indicated support to save 101 Clark St. The Board of Estimate's decision Tuesday sounded the knell for the efforts of several organizations here to support a plan that emphasized, preservation of ON YOUR NEXT SERVICE CALL THIS AD IS WORTH HY 2-5870 GE 9-8896 'Present this ad to your QUICK SERVICEMAN and he will give you a FULL $1 ALLOW ANCE on any repairs to your television set CAPE COD.

Under the housing board's pro-posal, qualified on-site residents would be relocated into the planned public housing project on the Northern Heights.

All told, there are 290 households, 301 single occupants and 89 merchants on the site, according to figures cited by a relocation official for the Department of Real Estate at a public hearing on Cadman before the Board of Estimate June 12. Still to be decided and presumably to be worked out at a later date by the Housing Board is provision for additional parking facilities on the project grounds. About 500 underground parking berths have been planned for the project. HRB chairman Milton Mollen has said his agency is investigating the possibility of adding 1,000 more off-street spaces. About 1,100 parking spaces will be lost under the present plan.

As a codicil to the plan, Public School 8, Brooklyn Heights' sole elementary school, will be refurbished and expanded from its present capacity of 630 students to 900. The renovation and expansion will receive high priority in Board of Education planning. Both Clark and Henry Sts. will, be widened to become "two-way thoroughfares. This will be necessitated because three streets that run perpendicularly to Fulton St.

Both teams had entered the contest tied for fourth place in the seven-team league. The loss dropped Cobble Hill to fifth and endangered its chances of winning a post-season playoff berth. The top four teams in the 'standing at season's end will vie for the playoff title and a trip to Puerto Rico.

Six Cobble Hill bobbles enabled the Tigers to spring to an 8-1 lead by the fifth inning. Although the Hilltoppers settled down in the middle frames, it was another miscue in the final inning that permitted Hatillo to score what proved to be the winning run. Relief pitcher Harold Young uncorked a wild throw, attempting to pick a runner off second. The base runner tallied, giving the Tigers a 9-6 lead. A two-run rally by Cobble Hill in its final turn at bat fell short.

Earlier, Cobble Hill had exploded for five runs in the seventh, narrowing the gap to 8-6.
