You Find Stories In All People naturally study life and people more than Newspaper men anyone else. The reporter--or any other person- for that matter--who fails to find a story in every person he meets will not succeed. We do not mean a story for his paper but a story that will become imbedded in his mind and somewhere along the line will react to his benefit.

The ragged old man with the shambling walk who hollers "any bones, any rags, any old clothes?" at your door has a story behind him. It mao not be one filled with glamor or romance but it is a story of life. The writer has never put an article in the paper that was not built around some person. 'There is no article you can write that does not have the human angle. Therefore people the nselves are In order to be a successful newspaper 'man you must stories.

It may be somewhat underdeveloped but there's something new there something no other person has. The punch-drank priz who sells peanuts for his living he failed to make in the 'ring carries A starv. Its a sordid 'story but its news. cares The grest architect who builds mighty bridges is a story Find oat the driving power behind his ambition and accomplishments. It will be news. The flapper who thinks mostly of lipstick and boy is a story.

It may be frivolous but its distinctive. The fellow who digs in the ditch from sun to sun and goes home to squalor and howling kids is a different story. He's news There is no person but who is a story, It takes a study of life and observation of to bring it out but its enville Empire-Tribune. The First Hundred Years. As states and nations go, Texas is still very young, not bav ing passed her first hundreth milestone.

In contrast states of the American Union are quite old, some around 300, nearly all over 200 years of age. That makes Texas still somewhat offa youngster -in the common wealth of states. Those who fought under Houston at San Jacinto would be astonished if they could awake from their long sleep and come back to Texas now. They might start at San Jacinto and see reamers floating on the placid waters of Baffilo Bayou, and a few miles away and a great city named 'in honor of their immortal commander. They could go south to Galveston and SAE 8 city built on what had been a sandy island in their day.

Turning north they would ride on a great bighgay, passing through towns and cities and oil fields, with a continoug; traffic of automobiles and trucks. Thev would come to a great city that has been built where Indians and Buffalo roamed in Hoaston's time and there they would witness the marvelous sight of preparations being made for the celebration of the Texas Centennial. These men of the San Jacinto field could surver Texas in a day, by airplane, passing from the Red River to the Gulf and then back to the Great Plains would see and hear of a state that has attained to the wealth and proportions of an empire, with marvelous natural resources, vast public improvements; with everything needed't to make men happy and life worth while. These warriors would feel that they had wrought mightily when they had made this great commonwealth possible. We of the present day, if such visitors should arrive, might well feel proad of what bad been accomplished.

We might also feel ashamed of some of the things of which we complain and of chings that have not been done. We of this generation might pledge to these warriors of 100 years ago a greater spirit of ser vice to the land which they in their day had made free. -Weather ford Democrat.
