Wallkill, N. March 28 (P). Brother was pitted against brother in a police search today for the slayer of 19-year-old Marie Terwilliger. The young girl was shot and killed as she stepped from the doorway of her home yesterday and police were seeking as her slayer Harry T. McHugh, postmaster of this village, and elder brother of Jesse McHugh, the girl's sweetheart.

Helps Search for Brother, The police theory was that the elder McHugh, after brooding over his brother's friendship with Miss Terwilliger, of which he disapproved shot her. Jesse has joined in a village search for his brother, but police believe the elder McHugh probably drowned himself in the flood waters of a creek that runs through the village. Miss Terwilliger resided with her mother above the postoffice. She died without revealing the name of her slayer. elder McHugh, police said, disappeared from postoffice a few minutes prior to the shooting and has not been seen since.

Shot After Quarrel. From evidence furnished by an operator in the telephone exchange, located in the Terwilliger home, police concluded that McHugh went to the girl's home and quarreled with her over her friendship for his brother; struck her, then pursued her downstairs and shot her through the head and "heart as she sought to reach the street. WOMAN ACCUSES MAN OF EXTORTION San Fillipo, Croix de Guerre Winner, Held in $5,000 Bail. Battista San Fillipo, 34, of 1875 Sterling was held in $5,000 bail today by Magistrate James J. Mrs. Cataginie charges she gave San Fillipo $500 on Sept. 6, 1927, to effect a reconciliation between her and her husband.

He was successful, she says. Between that date and Oct. 16 she gave him a total of $1,370, he having threatened to kill her if she did not give him money, she alleges. Then, having no more money, she filed a complaint with the police. San Fillipo's army discharge papers show he was awarded the Croix de Guerre in the World War while serving with American forces.
