Long Island Society Prof. William Lyon Phelps Gives Lecture at Garden City; Many Bridge-Luncheons Given Special to The Eagle Garden City, L. May 9 The big event of this week is the lecture this evening by Prof. William Lyon Phelps, under the auspices of the Garden City-Hempstead Community Club. Visitation Alumnae Has Annual Luncheon at Convent The Visitation Alumnae held their anual luncheon at the Convent yesterday. The reception room was decorated with smilax and sweet peas. Mrs Sylvan Berliner, the retiring president was presented with flowers and a lovely gift from the alumnae by Miss Helen O'Kcefe. After the presentation Mr-- Berliner spoke a few words of appreciation and gratitude and introduced the new president. Miss Gertrude Rose, who greeted the members of the alumnae and their friends.
