Peck and Katherine M. VanHeuvelen, both of Spokane, are among more than 1,200 St. Olaf College students who were recently recognized for academic achievement at the colleges annual Honors Day convocation. Honors Day recognizes St. Olaf College students ho have achieved a grade-point average of 3.3 or higher.

The convocation also cites St. Olaf students ho have won scholarships and fellowships, including Marshall and Fulbright Scholars, senior members of leadership and academic honor societies and students elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the national scholastic honors society. Peck and VanHeuvelen are graduates of Lewis and Clark High School. Matthew Eng was recently named the recipient of the Carl B. Ethan Daniel Dittmer To Stacie and Daniel Dittmer of Spokane.

WASH. Memorial service for Jean Nada (Jones) Eyrich, 84, will be at 2 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Inurnment will be in the Mausoleum at Riverside Memorial Park in Spokane. Mrs.

Eyrich, who was bom in Vancouver, British Columbia, died Monday. Her family moved to Blaine, in 1919. She graduated from Blaine High School in 1936, and she married Clifford Ludolph two years later. He died in 1949. She then married James Eyrich in 1954.

Mrs. Eyrich and her husband lived in Oakesdale, where they operated the Oakesdale IGA from 1955 to 1963. They operated a laundromat in Spokane from 1963 to 1978. She moved to Garfield in 1990 and was a member of the Garfield Senior Citizens. Her husband died in 1986.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryle Curtis of Garfield; a stepdaughter, Juleen Irwin of Santa Paula, a brother, Delmar Richbaw of Sacramento, sister, Vemalu Morino of Glen Haven, two grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Edward Boots Kivett SPOKANE Service for Edward "Boots Kivett, 75, will be at 1 1 a.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemete7.

Mr. Kivett, a lifetime Spokane resident died Sunday. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served aboard the USS Freestone during World War II. After the military, he worked with thoroughbred horses. He then worked as a heavy-machine operator for Inland Asphalt for 28 years.

He retired in 1982. Mr. Kivett enjoyed airplanes and earned a private pilot's license in 1947 under the G.I. Bill. He later built and flew radio-controlled aircrafts.

For the past 12 years, he and his wife, Mattie, wintered in Yuma, Ariz. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435, Moose Lodge 1627, Eagles Aerie 3433 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jill Boring of Anchorage, Alaska; three sons, Thomas Kivett of Spokane, Mark Peterson of Des Moines, and Wanen Young of Issaquah, two brothers, Glen and Robert Kivett, both of Spokane; three sisters, Phyllis Stagman and Delores Lashbrook, both of Spokane, and Carol Petragallo of Portland; and six grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morning Star Boys Ranch. Norman Albrecht SPOKANE No service will be held for Norman Albrecht, 79, at his request A memorial motorcycle ride will be held at a later date.

Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements. Bom in Kalispell, Mr. Albrecht died Monday. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He was a 79-year Spokane resident and worked as a carpenter in the construction indust7- Mr.

Albrecht was a member of Eagles Aerie 2, the Roving Gamblers and Eastern Evergreen Motorcycle Club. Survivors include his companion, Billie Leonard of Spokane; two daughters, Judy Albrecht of Spokane and Cheryl Waskosky of Ashby, three grandsons and three great-granddaughters. W.S. Jamieson SPOKANE Private memorial service for W.S. Wall Jamieson, 67, will be held at a later date.

Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Jamieson, who was bom in Santa Ana, died last Friday. He was a 30-year Spokane resident During the Korean War he served in the Army. Mr.

Jamieson worked as a salesman and consultant for roofing materials at CA Wholesale. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and was a member of the El Katif Shrine and Valley Fourth Memorial Church. Survivors include his wife of 4 1 years, Charlene; two sons, Scott and Randy Jamieson, both of Spokane; a sister, Barbara Fowler of Windsor, and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Christian School Building Fund. Edward Anderson SPOKANE Private service for Edward M.

Anderson, 77, will be held at a later date. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Anderson, a lifetime Spokane resident died Monday. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Anderson worked as a siding applicator for 30 years at McVay Brothers Siding and Windows. He retired in 1984. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435. His wife, Betty, died in 1999.

Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Dodson of Spokane, Karen Ose of Kent, and Terri Greer of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Fran Mansfield of Texas; and three grandchildren. I FayWiedrich SPOKANE Memorial service for Fay Wiedrich, 81, will be at 2 p.m. today at Franklin Hills Nursing Center in Spokane. Graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at LaCrosse (Wash.) Cemetety.

Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wiedrich, who was bom on the family farm in LaCrosse, died Tuesday. He grew up on the farm and graduated from LaCrosse High School. In 1940, he married Thelma Schwindel.

Mr. Wiedrich and his wife farmed and raised sheep and cattle. They retired in 1991 and moved into LaCrosse. They moved to Spokane and had been residents of Franklin Hills Nursing Center for the past year. He was a member of LaCrosse United Methodist Church, Washington Cattlemens Association and the LaCrosse Grain Growers and Gun Club.

He was a former member of a fire district board. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jana Sprague of Colbert; two sons, Duane Wiedrich of Spokane and Dennis Wiedrich of Ramona, a sister, Theona Marsh of LaCrosse; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Barbara (Birmingham) Simmons SPOKANE Memorial service for Barbara (Birmingham) Simmons, 76, will be at 2 p.m. today at Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A longtime Spokane resident Mrs. Simmons died June 17. She was bom in Chicago. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Idaho and a masters degree in teaching from Whitworth College.

Mrs. Simmons taught at Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College from 1966 to 1985. She later taught as a Fulbright exchange teacher in England at a technical college. She was a driver for Care Cars for six years and a 4th District representative to the state Democratic Central Committee. Survivors include a daughter, Anita Anderson of Otis Orchards; a sister, Laurie Tice of Abilene, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Care CarsElder Services, 5125 N. Market, Spokane, WA 99207. Christine Garcia SPOKANE Funeral Mass for Christine T. Garcia, 86, will be at 1 1 a.m. today at Spokane Tribal Longhouse in Wellpinit, Wash.

Burial will be at Wellpinit Catholic Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements. Bom in Wellpinit Mrs. Garcia died Monday. She moved to Spokane at age 14 and married Pedro Garcia in 1929 Mre.

Garcia was a homemaker and a member of the Spokane Tribe. She also was involved with the Northeast Community Center and the Indian Center. Her husband died in 1984. Survivors include six sons, Felix, Albert, Theodore and Pedro Garcia all of Spokane, Frank Garcia of Airway Heights and Louie Garcia of Seattle; four sisters, Catherine Andrews of Wellpinit Mary Jane Thatcher of Yakima, Lillian Lewis of Portland and Betty Timentwa of Malott, 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren. Gladys Cross SPOKANE Memorial service for Gladys Hap Cross, 71, will be at 1 p.m.

Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Mrs. Cross, who was bom in Upham, N.D., died Sunday. She was a 55-year Spokane resident Mrs. Cross worked as a sales clerk for The Crescent department store in Spokane and University City shopping center.

She worked for a Spokane Valley greenhouse for the past few years. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Kenneth; a son, Douglas Livingstone of Spokane; a brother, Reubm Fenner of Palermo, N.D.; and two sisters, Muriel Betters of Yelm, and Shirley Cavalaro of Antioch, Calif. Dorothea Smith SPOKANE Visitation for Dorothea Ann Smith, 67, will be from 9 a.m, to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Memorial service is planned for 10 a.m.

Monday at the funeral home. A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Smith died Tuesday. She worked as a bookkeeper for A.E.X. and was a member of Greenacres Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Turner, two sons, Stephen and Harold Shoup; and two sisters, Barbara Koski and Cynthia Barrington. John Emsdorff SPOKANE Service for John Paul Emsdorff, 58, will be at 1 1 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home in Spokane. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Mr.

Emsdorff, who was bom in Spokane, died Friday. He grew up in Lewiston. His family later moved to Lacey, where he graduated from St Martins High School in 1961. In 1966, he entered the Air Force, Mr. Emsdorff received a bachelors degree in medical technology from Gonzaga University in 1971.

He received a second bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, in 1977 and became a physicians assistant While in the military he worked as a medical technologist and physicians assistant He was discharged in 1989 as a captain. Since 1989 he had been working as a physicians assistant for Neurosurgery Associates of Spokane. He was a member of the American Legion and the Washington and American associations of physician assistants. Mr. Emsdorff had been active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1992.

In 2000, he was named Flotilla Member of the Year. Survivors include his wife, Karyl; three sons, Douglas Emsdorff of Seattle, Paul Emsdorff of San Diego and Ronald Emsdorff of Sacramento, a brother, Ed Emsdorff of Lewiston; two sisters, Chris Layes of Lewiston and Kathy Baden of Pasco; and a grandson, Betty Bowers CHEWELAH, WASH. Service for Betty Estes Bowers, 82, will be at 2 p.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will be at Chewelah Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bowers, who was bom in Yakima, died Tuesday. She grew up on a farm in Harrah, Wash. She moved to Rice, in 1939 and then to Addy, in 1960. Mrs.

Bowers and her husband, Robert Estes, owned and operated the Addy Second Hand Store from 1960 to 1980. They moved to Sunny Acres in Chewelah in 1979. Her husband died in 1980. She married Arthur Bowers. He died in 1990.

Mrs. Bowers was a member of Chewelah Seventh-day Adventist Church, Summit Valley Home-Ec Club and the Chewelah Senior Citizens. Survivors include a son, Ronald Estes of Glendale, a daughter, Thelma Fischer of Loon Lake, two sisters, Wilma Schanzenbach of Chewelah and Anna Uebelacker of Yakima; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Barbara (Shaw) Auch LIBERTY LAKE Funeral Mass for Barbara J. (Shaw) Auch, 54, will be at 1 1 a.m.

Saturday at SL John Vianney Roman Catholic Church. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Auch, who was bom in Mandan, N.D., died Monday. She was a 20-year Spokane-area resident Mrs.

Auch had worked as a registered nurse for 34 years, most recently at Sacred Heart Medical Center. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Larry; three daughters, Lora Auch of Spokane, Lisa McCullough of Post Falls and Lana Reynolds of Vancouver, her mother, Ann Shaw of Mandan; three sisters, Sharon Pfau of Bothell, Linda Haider of Bismarck, N.D., and Kathy Lanz of Des Moines, Iowa; and five grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Donald DeLong SPOKANE i No service will be held for Donald E. I DeLong, 76, at his request Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of i arrangements. Mr. Delong, who was bom in Potlatch, Idaho, died June 21. He was a 32-year Spokane resident During World War II he served in the Navy.

Mr. DeLong had worked as a truck driver for Carnation Dairy. He also had worked as a welder for Ace Fabrication and as a logger. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 2. Survivors include his wife, Pat; three children, Michelle and Angie DeLong, both of Spokane, and Wes DeLong of Lewiston; four stepchildren, Dan and Gwen Sexton, both of Spokane, Lynn Sexton of Eugene, and Teresa Sexton of Los Angeles; two brothers, Bob DeLong of Copalis, and Dick DeLong of Port Townsend, a sister, Dolores Mattoom of Lewiston; and numerous grandchildren.

Eastern Washington Universitys Students in Free Enterprise team won the regional championship, placing first in the four-year college division at the recent 2001 SIFE Regional exposition and Career Opportunity Fair in Seattle. This is the fourth year in a row that the EWU SIFE team has won the regional championship, competing with teams from across the western United States.
