him a speedy recovery The Legislature has finished its task and adjourned An appraisal is in order Its work will compare favorably with previous sessions Public matters considered cover wide scope with many highly controversial matters and enacted legislation will touch every element 'of the State's citizenship and it be several months before the full import of legislation will be fully known PROVED BY 66 BILLION MILES OF SATISFACTORY SERVICE WORLD WIDE COMMERCE IN POULTRY IS REALITY SAYS COLLEGE OFFICIAL Not only in the field directly applicable to poultry production and products has there been great progress but also in the study of chicken behavior in the rela- tion to human beravior the A and poultry specialist adls In the field of sociology and psychology there have been new and remarkable developments This has een done by the establishment of peck orders and other social orders amony chickens There is ample reason for the poultry industry of the to give its full support to the Eighth World's Poultry Congress which will be held in Denmark in 1948 Resulas accrued from the seventh world congress have been justification for the effort put forth by the American Poultry Industry to carry on next congress Thompson concludes Pilgrim Rest One noteworthy fact stands out Much bitterness of former sessions was absent and either the professional lobbyist kept in the background or was less promiscuous than in former sessions though istanccs of his presence was evident Legislators have come to the conclusion it is their bounden duty to legislate and regulate the conduct of the people from the cradle to the grave hence much time is spent considering matters which should never get onto the floor of the two bodies And another thing observed there is a growing dis-posistion among legislators to encroach upon reservations guaranteed the people in their Constitution and especially was this noticeable in the matter of a Constitutional Convention and in trying to take creation of debt by bond issues away from the approval a most dangerous tendency which must be guarded scrupulously especially since the people reaffirmed their opposition to incurring debt without their consent Complex as is our society there is little left any more to stimulate individual initiative Why growth of assumption that the average citizen cannot stand alone and regulation must extend over human activity surely this is unnecessary We hae observed a marvellous concord between the Legislative and executive branches much closer than usual and this brings an exultant pride to every citizen Governor Turner by his high and honorable attitude has elicted much commendation as it has been accomplished without fanfare He has met the leaders in a positive way and has seen practically every line of his promises made to the people enacted into law Now the responsibility for a successful administration of the affairs is his He has gone about accomplishing results modestly and quietly in a legal orderly way that convinces every one he is sincerely trying to accomplish results which will benefit the masses So far we have observed no threats of reprisals against any segment of our society and Mr and Mrs Jimmie Padgett are the proud parents of a baby girl bom May 9 in a Prairie Grove hospital Mother and baby getting along nicely Mr and Mrs Lloyd Stay-at-home are have been air shipments of eggs for hatching from the United States to Poland and Russia baby chicks and poults and adult turkey breeders to Mexico and South America baby chicks to Manila in the Philippine Islands market eggs from San Francisco to Honolulu and adult chicken breeder stock to Puerto Rica There also have been shipments by rail and sea notably of market or table eggs by ordinary freighter without refrigeration from the USA to Switzerland Shipments such as these indicate tthe pioneer spirit within the poutry industry in the US Thompson says Through efforts of the US poultry raisers who have followed the National Poultry Improvement Plan stimulated by the Seventh World's Poultry Congress' mortality of chicks produced by participants has been reduced to almost nil Breeding stages of the Plan have stepped up egg production and growth rate of chickens almost beyond belie!
