He said that Mitchell county had a very bad character, with a great many murders, whi'ch entailed heavy expense and that fcr 25 years the county had been in debt; that county scrip sold at 5 to 10 oenlis on the dollar, hut that generally the jurors were paid; that two or three men had for years bought up nearly all the claims, and was named as one of the committee, and that another commissioner is his altitorney; but that this speculator is a man of fine character. The Finance commi'titee named is of two Democrats and one Republican. Overman eaid there was a large petition asking, for the comtn'lttee; that the judge said the jurors were not 'paid. The bill passed its readings. lit was decided that hereafter no member should speak more than two minutes save by unanimouis consent.

Brown, deceased. Hi's wife was Miss Sail Me Eudy, daughter of Captain John Eudy, of Guilford county Brother Brown leaves five children. He has been a member of Edenton Street Methodist Church since early life. When the war between the States broke out he was living in Baltimore, which place he left and returned home to enlist in Company 47th regiment. Brother Brown Was been a member of Wm. C. Hill Lodge NO. 218, of 'Mrcns, fcr many years, and for several years past was its faithful and efficient secretary.
