10 For the love of a man Mobile has a beautiful atadium steel and concrete seating 36,000. Its a memorial to Ernest Fleetwood Ladd, given by the citizens of Mobile. It stands as a symbol of Ernest Ladds leadership in making Mobile a finer place to live. Ernest Ladd was born in Mobile in 1876. He was educated in Mobile.

He was a fine prep athlete. As all Mobilians he loved fishing and hunting. He went to work as a bank runner and banking was to be his lifes work. The Merchants Bank gave Mr. Ladd a job as a paying and receiving teller in 1901.

He became president of the bank in 1915. Soon he was to serve as a director on many boards and gave freely of his time and wealth to civic affairs and drives for charity. As a young banker he made many friends. As an experienced banker he started many young men in business in lending them money. Ernest Ladd died in 1941 and Mobile mourned the loss of one of Its finest citizens.
