"He came out with a blank form for my license return." the merchant continued. "He wanted to know how much my sales and inventory were, and I told him. "He sad I could cut down on those figures if I would him.

I told I wasn't interested. I turned in my own, return and listed the correct amounts for sales and inventory." The former operator of an appliance store, who was in business until last year, said he cheated on the tax because it was too 1 1 1 I I 'TEMPTATION' He said that in a business operating on a small margin of profit the "temptation" to cheat on the tax is great and makes the businessman a ripe prospect for a "deal." He said he entered such a d7a-1 when a representative from the License Collector's office came to his store. The businessman said he complained to the License office employe about the tax rate being ton high, and the employe offered to fill out a tax return at a "satisfactory" figure provided, there was a pay-off "So I would pay him $10 or $20," the businessman said, "and he would fill Out the return so that it ivould save me $300 or MO in taxes. "I cheated: I'm guilty. I admit it.

DA the tax is tao high ant it's unreallrfc. 4611 the tax was put on a more realistic bass and everybody paid what he was supposed to pay, it would produce more, revenue without being too much of a burden on anyone." Mr. Dennis, the manager for Crown Cork and Seal, a bottle cap manufacturing firm, said he was offered a pay-off proposition, 12y a clerk in the License Collector's office in a series of conferences that began in the summmer of .1955. The clerk indicated that the firrn's tax could be reduced if Vie clerk, was paid one-half fs t'le savings, Mr. Dennis saki The proposition was rejected.

The Proposed savings would haw, run into "four firures," he. said. Iat I. 1 MEINLL. WILLIAM GEORGE.
