was held as usual Sunday but the class was small due to rainy weather The lesson wa3 taught by Mrs Lily Ketcher Chester Coombes has received his discharge from the Navy and is visiting in the home of his sister Mrs Arlie Smallen Sgt Erasmus Hummingbird and wife have been visiting his parents Mr and Mrs George Hummingbird while he is on furlough from the army Carl Crittenden who has spent a 30-day furlough here with homefolks has returned to his camp Mr and Mrs Alex Sunday came over from Tulsa Friday to visit Aunt Susan Ketcher Mrs mother A pleasant surprise feature of our weekly assembly program last Wednesday was the musical program put on by a group of the older boys and consisted of violin guitar french harp and vocal numbers Taking part on the program were Pickup and Steve Blackwood Jeetah Watt and George Crittenden All enjoyed the music and hope they will surprise us again Mrs Della Anderson and grandchildren Phyllis and Dorothy visited Saturday in the Lon Tatum home Mr and Mrs Marion Winkler and sons Randall and Lonnie James of Muskogee visited their parents Mr and Mrs Lon Tatum Sunday afternoon Waddie Robinson Sherman Coombes and Glenn Swepston were visiting in with his brother George Harlin of Spade Mountain section in his first visit to him in 12 years and with a sister Mrs Annie Belle Taylor of the same community whom he had not seen in 30 years Mr Harlin employee of a Wichita packing plant hopes to buy a place near Stilwell and move his family here to establish a home in the near future To keep informed of the activities Mr Harlin subscribed for the Democrat-Journal to come to him for the next year Walter Lemaster who lives nine miles northwest of Stilwell was in Saturday with his wife and their small son Gary James looking after business and shopping and he called at our office to have the Democrat-Journal come to them Mr Lemaster was recently honorably discharged from the army after serving four years six months and nine days After 25 months service in the European Theater of operations he was returned to the States and sent to the Pacific where he participated in the invasions of Ie Shima Okinawa and others Simmons of Route 3 Sanders community is a new Democrat-Journal reader since Saturday when he was a Stilwell business visitor He reports among otheV improvements in his section the 4-room frame home of John Burnett under construction Mrs Mary Glass and daughter Wynona Quinton Church route were numbered with the Saturday visitors and shoppers and called at our office to subscribe for the D-J Two of Mrs four sons in service were recently discharged: Ted Quinton 1 who spent two years in the Pacific Theater and Pfc Troy Quinton who was in the invasion of Okinawa where he suffered serious wounds He was awarded the Purple Heart the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with three battle stars and the Good Conduct Ribbon He was recently discharged from the Naval Separation Center at Norman Rowe our genial county clerk
