Washington state businesses can compete for the chance to sell their products nationally on QVC on April 12 at the Saint Martins College Pavilion in Lacey, near Olympia. The deadline is Monday. Interested vendors should call Woodnet, a non-profit organization that represents small secondary wood products manufactured on the Olympic Peninsula at (360) 452-5496.

Farmer Wes Farris caught buyers attention with his frozen spud pack complete' with four quick potato meals, including spud-on-a-stick and stuffable potato shells. Joan Balzarini brought her black Shih Tzu dog to help show off Pack-a-Pet. The pack straps onto the chest so pet owners can take their dogs and cats for a stroll. This might just allow me to hit the big time, Balzarini said. Lane will announce the winners in a few weeks.

Each manufacturer has about a l-in-10 chance at stardom. And the stakes are intense. Just look at some of the predecessors. A Texas inventor of Hoof-Hoof-Hooray shampoo and nail conditioner for horses has sold 200,000 units since January, nearing the $1 million mark in sales. Each Idaho product must have at least a $15 retail value, be shippable and not distributed nationally.

Associated Press jQj OISE Inventive entrepreneurs are trying to convince QVC buyers that nothing says Idaho better than a spud on a stick, or a pet pack, or maybe a wearable sled. Those products, along with retractable phone cords, bird houses and a multi-angle shower attachment were all on display Thursday in Boise for the QVC national television shopping network. It plans to sell Idaho products in a special July 8 segment, broadcast to 50 million households nationwide. QVC is the nations largest electronic retailer with annual sales of $1.4 billion. Idaho is the 24th stop in QVCs 50-state tour.

How badly do these 186 entrepreneurs want to be one of the 20 Idahoans who reach a national market for their products? Do you want me to get on my hands and knees and beg? asked Kimberly Garringer. By Kristina Johnson Staff writer It was a gun lovers paradise, and everyone was welcome. Eveiyone, that is, but the media. Signs at the entrance to the Spokane Gun Show made it clear no photographers, no videocameras allowed. And just try to find someone willing to be quoted.

Gun show people dont like to be quoted, said one man who surprise wouldnt give his name. Promoter Paul Snider described the annual show at the Spokane County Fairgrounds as the perfect place to buy, sell and trade firearms. But tell your photographer to stay home, Snider said, adding that gun owners get too much bad publicity. The show featured at least 400 displays, ranging from collections of silver spurs made in the early 1900s by Mexican craftsmen to boar furs and bison heads. Handguns and rifles of all shapes and sizes filled the rows and rows of tables.

Eighty percent of the stuff is collectibles, Snider said. Youll find some new, modern guns, and lots of Old West type stuff. Snider guessed that Saturdays attendance topped at least 2,000 people. They roamed among the display booths, lusting after guns like the 1950s Winchester rifle and a replica of an 1835 Dimmic Plains muzzleloader. A few displays featured books, with topics ranging from women police officers to surveillance, survival skills to poaching without getting caught.

At least one table was offering bumper stickers about the evils of gun control and signs with Hitlers face, reading When I come back, no more mister nice guy. Shar Aguilar, of Plummer, Idaho, came to the show with her husband and three daughters in search of a new rifle. This is family recreation, she said, adding that she and her two older daughters all had rifles. One gun owner described his collection of European rifles as jewelry. This is my favorite, he said, gingerly picking up a 1922 German Kettner.

Its handmade. He, too, didnt want his name used. Its Zak, and thatll do, he said. Spokane people are weird about guns. The Coeur dAlene woman was showcasing her Power Sled: a plastic, flexible device that straps onto kids backs to eliminate the hassle of dragging a sled uphill.

Were looking for products with a distinct Idaho feel, said Bill Lane, QVC director of new market development. Something with an agricultural, Western or outdoors feel. Man arrested after pointing gun at police A Spokane Symphony Family Concert obstruction. Grasers wife, Ivalynn Graser, 46, was a passenger in the car. She was cited for obstruction but not jailed.

She repeatedly told officers someone was after her and was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center for a mental evaluation, Cottam said. Officers responded to a suspicious activity call just after midnight at Lee and Cleveland. They were stopped by a motorist who said a man in a white Cutlass had just pointed a rifle at him. By Alison Boggs Staff writer A Coeur dAlene man was arrested early Saturday after authorities said he pointed a loaded rifle at officers. He came very close to being shot I think, said Spokane police spokesman Dick Cottam.

(The officers) exercised a lot of restraint. Charles R. Graser, 40, of 1522 Davis in Coeur dAlene, was booked into Spokane County Jail on carrying a loaded weapon in a car, intimidating an officer with a firearm and Police pulled the Cutlass over in the 2800 block of North Stone. Officers ordered the driver and passenger, later identified as the Gras-ers, out of the car. Both responded slowly.

Graser leaned back into his car and picked up a rifle from the back seat, Cottam said. Graser turned toward the officers with his gun in his hands and repeatedly refused their orders to drop the gun. Several officers had their weapons pointed at Graser, who finally put down his rifle and was handcuffed, Cottam said. Sunday, April 9, 1995 2:00 p.m. The fun begins at 1:00 p.m.
