Both Alabama and Louisiana State worked out in the stadium and the field wasnt bad, following a downpour Thursday night. Both teams looked fresh and ready for battle. 20 P) The Brooklyn Dodgers will be training Tn Miami next spring if Manager Burt Shotton has his way. Shotton, mild-mannered veteran of professional baseball who replaced Leo Durocher as manager last Fall, made a quick survey of Miami's baseball facilities and said: If the city wants us, I dont see any reason why we wont be here next March. He said the final decision, however, must be made by club President Branch Rickey. Shotton said he had looked at a number of prospective sites for the Dodger Spring camp, adding Im very enthusiastic about this place. It has everything our organization wants.

A principal selling point, Shotton said, was the proximity to the Vero Beach, camp operated by the Dodger farm system for all of its minor league clubs. Mr. Rickey and I want to keep close tabs on the youngsters in the Spring ana theres no trouble at all to get up to Vero from here. It was previously announced that the Dodgers would train with their farm clubs at Vero Beach. He remembers coming here, in 1895, after Alabama had lost to Tulane the day before, and getting knocked in the head.

Borden forgot his signals but had presence of mind enough to call the players into a huddle and worked a signal. It was the first time for the huddle. He used the huddle the rest of the game, Alabama lost, 12 to 6. The population of Baton Rouge in 1895 was less than 5,000. To date the population is 112,000.

No wonder Borden Burr couldnt point out the field he played on which is across town from the new Louisiana State setup one of the finest in the country. Whats giving Red Noonan his new-found power in crashing the line? Several weeks ago a scout remarked, Noonan isnt running on his toes any more. Hes running flat-footed and getting power. Red was asked if the scout knew what he was talking about I began running flat-footed against Mississippi State and found I could drive harder. Alabama supporters couldnt remember seeing big Red run any harder than he did against Georgia Tech last week.

Before the light engineers work out plans for re-lighting Legion Field, they want to come to Baton Rouge and study the L. S. U. lighting system. Its the most brilliantly lighted field in football 250,000 watts from eight towers erected at the back of the stadium.

Louisiana State and Tulane are going to introduce collegiate basketball double-headers Dec, 3 and 4. Louisiana will play Texas and Rice will play Tulane here and they switch at New Orleans. Harry Rabenhorst, basketball coach for L. S. believes this is the first pair of basketball double-headers ever played by big colleges.

Wofford is now the holder of the National Collegiate record with five consecutive tie football games. There are some 113 players from north of the Mason and Dixon line in the Southeastern Conference. Its a part of the S. E. C.s good neighbor policy.

The South will always have friends in the Yankee boys who come South to get an education and play football. Before Alabama tagged Georgia Tech, the Jackets were a touchdown favorite over Georgia. Now the points are rising on Georgia, up seven points this week. Two touchdowns difference in a week. Jack Brown, Alabama's sophomore punter, bids fair to end up as the best punter in the Southeastern Conference.

Jack got off to an awful beginning against Tulane, but since then, he has been getting distance. Jack is developing into a fine all-around quarterback in tbe Alabama system which calls for handling the strategy, blocking, running, yes, and punting this year. He showed he could pass when he made up a play with El Salem in the Georgia Tech game. Wouldnt the bowls be in a pickle if Georgia, Mississippi, Tulane and North Carolina all took lickings before time to select the teams? It could happen. Bill Alexander is going to insist next year that the rule requiring coaches to sit on the bench is enforced.

It will put a crimp in coaches having to stand to do their master-minding. Johnny Vaught has become the third coach to beat a Bob Neyland Tennessee team twice in a row. Frank Thomas, of Alabama, was first and Cart Snavely of Nbrth Carolina was second. The best jobs in the majors today are the coaches jobs. Charley Dressen got 20-grand from the Yankees and Bill McKechnie got 330,000 from the Cleveland Indians.

And they didnt have the worries of the managers. Why manage when you can get the money without the headaches? ajc ac They're Saying In The Sports World BRANCH RICKEY (General manager of both the Brooklyn baseball and football Dodgers) Im a baseball man, not a football man.
