Coaches Bob Neyland and Bobby Dodd announced yesterday that they havent been able to get together on dates for the games in the 1950-51 seasons. However, both the Tennessee coach and Techs Dodd said they would like to renew the series in 1952 if dates can be worked out.

The first game of the season offer was ruled out when Neyland explained Tennessee has commitments to Mississippi State, Dodd said. Tennessee also rejected a third game offer, Dodd added. Neyland said he would meet Tech in the 1952 opener and thereafter if Tech would keep the Vols in their present first Saturday in November for the next two seasons. Dodd said that was impossible because Tech already has games with Virginia Military Institute for those dates in 1950-51. Cage Card Charles Has Narrow Escape Over Haynes DUSTING EM OFF BY ZIPP NEWMAN Th Birmingham News- Football Officials To Be Approved Here Southeastern Conference athletic directors and football coaches meet with Commissioner Bernie Moore here Sunday. They meet to the officials for the 1949 football games. The names of many officials new to the Southeastern will be suggested. They have to have a majority of votes before they will be accepted on the approved list.

Football officials are all mostly successful business men. They come from all walks of life. Most of the offficials have played football. Its in the late 30s before most officials get a chance to work in the big games. Love of football is responsible for most men officiating in the game.

Through the years the Southeastern Conference hag had fine officiating. As a group, football officials are tops in character and personality. George Gardner, of Atlanta, heads up the officials association and does the booking through Commissioner Moore's office. Each head coach sends in a rating of the officials who work his game. Officials for a game are the ones the two -head coaches come the nearest to agreeing on.

None may be the first choice. The best officials are the ones the fans are never conscious.of seeing work a game. Most officials know they have worked a good game when there is no comment from the coaches or the press. Excellent officiating is the backbone of any sport. Officiating either makes or breaks any game.

Unfortunately, there are those in charge of teams who try to make the officials look bad when they lose. The oldest alibi in sports is blaming the officials. Nowadays the fans are smart enough to know when a coach or manager blames the officials, hes unable to provide a better alibi for losing than the officials. One seldom sees the top coaches, managers or outstanding stars wasting time arguing with officials. Birmingham Has Co-Golf Champion There should be a stimulant for women's golf here in Bea McWane, Birmingham, and Polly Riley.
