I I (to January 31 ,1993 Page H2 The Spokesman-Review 1992s homicide victims i mmm les en women, 1 7 men and two little boys were victims of homicide in Spokane County and North Idaho in W2. Their deaths are the most heart-rending evidence of increasing violence in our community. They were strangled, slabbed, shot, bludgeoned and beaten. Some, tike Billy Ivy, died almost instantly. Others, like Lisa Ahenakew, suffered long, agonizing deaths.

The youngest was ness born Aaron Connolly. The oldest, 83-year-old Leslie Monohon. Staff writers Jeanette White and Molly Cuthrey compiled this list. The faces and stories behind last years statistics create a distressing LSpokanelCoimty Joanne Saso Moore At the time of her murder, Joanne Saso Moore, 53, had just completed her masters degree in hospital administration and was looking for a job. Her husband, Dr.

William Dudley Moore, was convicted of the killing in June. He strangled his wife sometime between Dec. 26, 1991 and Jan. 2, 1992 later telling the court she wanted a separation and hid her body in their luxurious Cougar Bay home. Harold Bart Harold Bart, 50, was struggling to overcome a lifetime of alcohol addiction, says his aunt, Virginia Mullin.

She was Barts only close friend and relative. She described him as a quiet sort who loved telling stories, hunting, fishing and drawing pictures. Teenagers Dan Graff and Bobby Gene McFarland pleaded guilty to Barts murder. Authorities say they stabbed him to death on Jan. 9 for $2, a jacket and other personal belongings near railroad tracks in Kellogg' Jody Lyn Cooper Jody Lyn Cooper, 35, had worked as an emergency room nursing supervisor and was president-elect of the local chapter of the National Organization for Women.

She was found hacked to death on Feb. 29 and her common-law husband, Robert Crockett, critically injured, in their home. Her teenaged son, Jeremy Cooper, was arrested for her murder, but charges were dropped in December because of lack of evidence. Judith Kulle Judith Kulle, 48, left a troubled marriage six months before her ex-husband killed her on Jan. 3, She had just moved from Seattle to Spokane to be closer to her parents.

Donald Kulle stabbed her to death in her Valley apartment, but told the judge he was drunk and didnt remember the killing. He pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 4 1 months in prison. Karen Snelling Karen Snelling, 20, and her husband, Donald, celebrated their second wedding anniversary in June. On July 2 she was found beaten to death with a baseball bat at their home on East Eighth. The woman, who loved bingo games and family picnics, died a few feet from her 16-month-old daughters crib.

Donald Snelling, 23, is charged with second-degree murder. Franklin D. Maddox On July 2, Franklin D. Maddox, 44, was shot in the head at a hobo camp near Playfair Race Course. Another transient found his body wrapped in a sleeping bag along the Burlington Northern railroad tracks.

No arrests were made.1 Lisa Ahenakew Lisa Ahenakew, 26, was a quiet but friendly woman who loved doing beadwork. She was doused with gasoline and set afire outside her boyfriends Brownes Addition apartment building on July 8. After lapsing into a coma, Ahenakew died a month later. Her boyfriend, Jose L. Cirino, 38, is charged with second-degree murder.

Sparks of Tacoma was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Ivy. Carl Eugene Hall A last-minute change in plans brought Carl Eugene Hall, 23, to the bar where he was shot down on Sept. 15. Hall, who was visiting a cousin in Spokane for the first time, decided to go to Sams Pit before returning to his home in Upland, as hed planned. Hall, an only son and 1 father of 20-month-old Carl was engaged to be married to the childs mother.

George Sparks was charged with second-degree murder, but a jury said he shot Hall in self-defense. Richard Goodsall Richard Goodsall was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife in the Valley bar where he worked as a janitor and bartender. Goodsall, 39, who loved to throw darts and cook Italian dishes for his friends, likely surprised a burglar when he walked into the Brass Faucet Tavern. Missing was $6 and a pile of pepperoni. No one has been arrested.

Bryan Bailey Bryan Bailey, 33, worked the family wheat farm with his father in Lamont, Wash. His wife was expecting the couples second child when Bailey was killed on a road in west Spokane. Police say a prostitute Bailey picked up downtown ran over him with his own pickup truck after he got out. Darcel Renee Bolt, 26, is charged with firt-degree murder in the Oct. 10 killing.

Brian Cole Brian Cole, 48, was a hardworking businessman who liked to squeeze camping and canoeing trips into the little spare time he had. He and his wife, Michele, worked long hours at the Valley furniture store they opened nine years ago. They were tending the store Nov. 7 when a man with a silver handgun shot Brian Cole in the head and back before leaving with $18 from his wifes purse. Police havent found the sus- pect.

Angela Ingram Angela Ingram, 25, had dated Lance Snyder for only a few months when he decided he couldnt live without her. The Hillyard woman broke up with Snyder, 27, shortly before he showed up at her house with a shotgun on Nov. 19. He shot Ingram before killing himself in what Ingrams mother calls a case of If I cant have you, Ill kill you. Ingram, who loved salmon fishing, elk hunting and writing poetry, met Snyder when she worked at an Elk City, Idaho, lodge.

Of her eight siblings, one sister drowned and another died in a car wreck. Wiley Lahr Wiley Lahr, 29, began the evening of Nov. 14 as he did many others stopping by The Hub in Hillyard for a beer with friends. When the concrete worker, who played on the taverns dart team, left that night, he was stabbed in the chest and died in an alley. Manuel Contreras, who was apparently bumped by the door when Luhr left, is charged with second-degree murder.

Jon Paul Bilby Jon Paul Bilby, 21 months, rarely was seen without his favorite white teddy bear the one he chewed the nose off. The toddler, who liked to bounce balls and tease his cat. Misty, died from a blow to the head on May 8. Ilis mothers boyfriend, Mark E. Burch, was babysitting the boy when police believe he was fatally injured.

Burch is charged with second-degree murder and awaits trial. Sherry Palmer Sherry Palmer, 19, began working as a prostitute after she dropped out of Ferris High School. Her mother and grandmother tried to dissuade her, but she said the fast money was addictive. On May 13, a man walking in the foothills of Mount Spokane found Palmers body. A plastic bag covered her head but not the bullet wound in her chest.

The case is unsolved. Tod Folsom Tod Folsom, 24, worked at burger King to put himself through college. The Washington State University senior was killed in the North Argonne restaurant while preparing to open for breakfast on May 18. The quiet young man who collected model trains was stabbed during a robbery. Blake Pirtle, a former co-worker, is charged with aggravated first-degree murder.

Dawnya Calbreath Dawnya Calbreath, 20, wrote poetry and dreamed of being a novelist. She had worked at Burger King since high school to pay her way through college. Calbreath was opening the store with Folsom on May 18 when her throat was slashed during the robbery. Blake Pirtle is charged in the murder. Michael Maykowskyj Pizza deliveryman Michael Maykowskyj, 25, was shot and robbed at W2125 Broadway while making his last run of the night on July 20, Maykowskyj was taking a break from studies at Gonzaga University l-aw School and working two and three jobs at a time.

He had a 2-year-old daughter and liked to snow ski, fish and hunt. Daniel Delgado, Harold Paddyaker Jr. and Mark Falls await trial on charges of aggravated first-degree murder. Russell 0. Epler Russell O.

Epler, 20, was voted most talented by his high school class. On June 1, he was shot by Charles Moore, his girlfriends stepfather, in St. Maries. Moore pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. He said the killing was in self-defense.

Susannah Smith Susannah Smith, 35, worked as a dialysis aide and was described by both patients and friends as bubbly and happy. On July 10, two weeks after she separated from her husband, James R. Smith, he came back to their Spirit Lake home and bashed her head six times, possibly with a baseball bat. He killed himself later that day with a bullet to the head. Jerry Shinn Jerry Shinn worked hard at his roofing job and called home every night, says his mother, Yvonne Davis.

Shinn, 25, was shot and killed July 6 outside a Kellogg bar. Eleutro P. Munoz Vasquez awaits trial for Shinns death. William Began William Degan, 42, was a commander for the U.S. Marshals elite SWAT team who lived in Quincy, with his wife and two teenaged sons.

The ex-Marine was shot Aug. 21 while he and five other federal marshals were gathering intelligence near the isolated North Idaho cabin of fugitive Randy Weaver. The shooting precipitated an 1 1 -day standoff. Weaver and his friend Kevin Harris face murder charges. Sharon Webb Sharon Webb, 35, worked as a cook ut a St.

Joes restaurant. She loved to fish and swim. Webb tried to leave her boyfriend Mickey Whitcomb in October. But hours after she left their home on Oct. 7, authorities say he hunted her down in the tiny town of Avery and shot her in the head when she refused to come home.

They say he also shot at her 13-year-old son Jason Kinart, who played dead and later escaped. Whitcomb faces murder and attempted murder charges. Billy Austin Billy Austin, 22, was shot in the stomach July 2 1 after an argument with his girlfriend. He was kicked out of his East Augusta apartment and was trying to break back in to see his girlfriend again when he was killed. His former roommate, Joseph A.

Downing, is charged with first-degree manslaughter. Leslie Monohon Leslie Monohon, 83, was a money lender who began each day by visiting his wile at a Valley nursing home. His visits abruptly stopped when he disappeared on June 10, 1991. Fifteen months later, on Sept. 1 1, a patrolman digging in the basement of his recently purchased North Side home uncovered Monohons body.

Police suspect he was killed by Graciano Ortiz, the former homeowner, who committed suicide in November 1991. Pamela Anne Norman Pamela Anne Norman, 25, was trying to pull herself away from a lileot prostitution and drug abuse so she could get back the infant son social workers had taken away. On May 28, loggers found her body, shot in the head, in thick brush on Valley Chapel Road south of Spokane. Her friend, Clarence Frey, is charged with first-degree murder. Eddie Lee Hollowed When he wasn't caring for his six children or working as a mechanic for the city of Sand-point, Eddie Lee llollowell loved to toy around with racing cars, llollowell, 35, and his wife were talking about separating but still lived together on Nov.

29 when he was killed. Cyndi llollowells friend, Howard F. Limeburg is accused of fatally shooting Eddie llollowell during a fight over Cyndi llollowell. Limeburg awaits trial for first-degree murder. David W.

Castle Btind members leaving a downtown Spokane bar found David W. Castle in a gutter on Pacific Avenue. The 30-year-old construction I worker had been stabbed in the chest in an apparent fight. Police are still investigating the June 30 killing. Billy Ivy On Sept.

15, Billy Ivy, 27, went with friends to Sams Pit, a popular after-hours spot in the East Central neighborhood. An argument about a woman led to shooting. Ivy, who was visiting from California, and his friend Carl Hall were shot down in the father, Sean Connolly, whom police charged with second-degree murder on Dec. I. Doctors say the 2-nionth-old boy died from blows to the head.

An autopsy showed seven ribs were fractured in a previous injury..
