(Rialto) 12, 1976 Nomination voting light among area steelworkers FONT ANA Less than 300 of the 7,000 members of Local 2869, United Steelworkers of America (USWA) cast nomination ballots for union international offices Tuesday night. A majority supported the candidate slate endorsed by President I.W. Abel, incumbent USWA International president, who will retire June 1, 1977. Abel supports Lloyd McBride, director of union District 34 (southern Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska). The opposition slate is led by Ed Sadlowski, District 31 (South Chicago) director.

The international is composed of 1.5 million steel workers in more than 5,000 locals throughout the and Canada. Local 2860 is composed of production and maintenance workers at Fontana's Kaiser Steel Corp. plant, and is the largest bargaining unit in the union's District 38, the 10 western states and Hawaii. Ron Bitonti, district campaign coordinator, announced the vote outcome and said, "It represents a victory and shows the steelworkers are with the administration." The Local 2869 ballot breakdown with the "official family" candidate listed first is: President McBride, 154, and Sadlowski, 108; vice president, administrative, Joe Adorcich, 167, and Marvin Weinstock, 85; vice president, human relations, Leon Lynch, 171, Oliver Montgomery, 85; secretary, Lynn William, 173, and Nach Rodriguez, 83; treasurer, Frank S. McKee, 176, and Andrew "Andy" Kmac, 84; and district 38 director, Robert Petris, 183, and Jaun Chacon, 78.

McKee is the current District 38 director, which includes 235 union locals, and about 80,000 members in the Western states. Bitonti said the district's nomination ballot results won't be known until Dec. 10, because balloting is scheduled among locals through Dec. 8. He said the general election is scheduled Feb.

8, 1977 and will determine who is to lead the international's administration for the next four years. It is through negotiations of the international that industrywide wages and benefits for steel workers of the "Big 10" steelmakers are settled. Kaiser steel workers receive the same benefits as those received under the national settlement, and they also are able to negotiate labor items of local interest. "We feel 'that the nominations election is an important one," said Bitonti, "because it involved basic steel workers, and those are the ones that Sadlowski and his campaigners concentrated on." He also said the vote result indicates to him that Kaiser steelworkers are not ready for, his (Sadlowski's) type of unionism" opposition to arbitrated labor dispute settlements, greater use of the strike, and dependence on outside influence to support union activities. Bitonti said, "I just don't think the steelworkers are going to buy it what they want is progress and security for themselves their jobs and their families." Eisenhower sophomores seek No. 5 RIALTO Eisenhower High School's sophomore football team goes after a perfect 50 Citrus Belt League season at 3.15 p.m.

today against Pacific High School. The game will be played at the EHS field. Eisenhower clinched a tie for the sophomore division title last week with a 22-7 victory over Redlands. It is the school's first CBL football title of any kind. The Eagles are 7-1 overall under Coach Dan Rentz.

Against Redlands, quarterback Troy Farr ran for one touchdown, Rodney Martin ran 93 yards for another and backup quarterback Kevin McDowell passed 50 yards to Kevin Davis for the third score. Ike had 315 yards total offense while holding Redlands to 125 yards. The center is directed by Rosemary Colunga and all of its programs are available to residents of the Bloomington, Colton, Grand Terrace, Rialto and Fontana areas. "The number of women coming to the clinic has doubled in the past three weeks and it Just seemed to be more practical to 'divide them up' into two separate sessions," Sid Sharp, clinic coordinator said. Tuesday and Thursday classes will start at 5 p.m.

and, generally, end at 7:30 p.m. The 'end' may sometimes be a little before or a little after 7:30 p.m., depending on the need," Sharp said. Previously, 40 women were enrolled. Now, 70 women have registered for the weekly sessions and more are expected. Sharp credits the increase in participation to a feature on the program published in October in the Sun-Telegram.

"We started getting calls from everywhere and just had to go into the extra session which is something we are pleased to be able to do." Alisa Antonich, a public health educator from the San Bernardino County Health Department, works with Sharp in instruction and administration of the weight control program. "We want to emphasize that the clinic is open to men as well as women, and also to children," Antonich said. "It is just as vital to health and improved appearance for men who need it to participate," she said. "Men should not feel any hesitation embarassment about taking advantage of the opportunity to shed pounds they don't need, pounds that detract from appearance or from physical well-being." The clinic program is limited to carefully planned exercises, discussions to overcome psychological reasons for overweight, and emphasizes "eating less" more than it stresses "control by diet." The weight control clinic will be closed Nov. 23 and Nov.
