Jefferaon College football did not monopolise upsets on Saturday. Our schoolboy accounted for a few themselves. ODrstnnding among the unlooked-for -results was the defeat of Poly Prep by New Utrecht, the drubbing handed Boys High by Erasmus and the easy victory Stony Brook School of Long iRlond registered over St. Benedict's Prep of Newark. Taking tlre'grtmd old dope as the criterion, the.

outcome of the contests specified should have been the other way around. Erasmus, on the strength of its previous mediocer preformances, had ho license to make Jttoys High bite the dust. It was a case of where the Ked and Black took on the Buff and Blue wearers from Flntbush at a time when they had reached their real lorm. Coach Bill Broos was so -much disturbed with the lack of punch displayed by his team In the previous game that he gave them an overdose of training and It proved productive tonic Erasmus on Saturday looken like the Flatbush teams of old. The combination went about its work with clock-like precision and did not miss a single advantage thrown Its way.

On the other hand, Boys High, the defending title holder, appeared as if Jt had lost heart through bowing to Thomas Jefferson previous week by the scent margin of a field Boys High Out of Iu Boys High has no excuse to offer, as Qoach Walter Muller had his ath-leteit -In fine fettle to start afresh their drive to another championship. The setback of Saturday ruins what little chance the Red and Black had of retaining the laurels gained a year ago. The victory gives Erasmus a remote chance of finishing at the top of the heap. The Buff and Blue has two. coreless ties with leading contenders for the title chalked against it.

Furthermore, the Flatbush eleven lost its debut contest of the season. Usually outrof-town games do not count, but the defeat will have to be. taken lnto consideration If the comparative records of the leading teams are so close that games won and lost must be used in making the final decision. With Vlnny Di Angells In the back-fleld functioning in his real form, Erasmus waB master of the situation Halporn. N.

Rugglero, Manhaaaet 4 ELEVEN BIS TO lng the victory possible. As usual, AlcCarty, James, Gonzales, Wolff and ISelson were the big numbers for Poly Prep. While New Utrecht and Erasmus furnished two of the upsets, thjy were nothing in comparison to the shock that Stony Brook School handed the followers of schoolboy gridiron combats by traveling over to Newark and humbling the crack St. Benedict's team. The Skeetcr Staters were favored to win by an overwhelming score.

We even went so far as to state that the Suffolk County boys wer going out of their class. This wa probably the Incentive for them to demonstrate that they were a greatly underrated team. Coach Charley Ruffner's lads are to be congratulated for their greut feat, particularly because the team went Into action badly crippled by Injuries to several stars. Stony Brook put up a brilliant exhibition. It was a classic to watch.

The players went about their wprk as If their very lives depended nn the outcome. St. Benedict's Prep lads were completely swept off their feet by the offensive and defensive power of the small Long Island institution. The result of the game is conclusive proof that it is bad manners to prognosticate in this season of wholesale upsets. The entire Stony Brook team played so well that it would be an injustice to pick out any one boy and say he starred.

James Madison kept in the championship race by turning back a dangerous threat in Brooklyn Prep. The victors looked the part of a real contender more than at any other time this season. Any team that takes the Crown Heights grldders over must be reckoned with. The Oolden Tornado went about its work In a businesslike fashion and never let up, realizing that the Blue and White juggernaut la dangerous until the last whistle has blown. Madison Plays Well.

Madison's plays were conducted harmoniously throughout the combat, not a single hitch interfering with their plans to rush the Jesuit rhnnlhovs Into submission. Brook YKSTFRDAY'S SCORKS. Emanon AC. (. fan.
