Marion Butts had some harsh words for the Chiefs tackling technique in Sundays 16-14 loss. In the season opener. Butts injured his right knee against the Chiefs. He was forced to miss a game and wear a knee brace when he returned. Only last week had he recovered enough to gain more than 100 yards.

Sunday, Butts again found himself on the sideline. And late in the game when the Chargers needed their big. physical back, he couldn't contribute. CHARGERS me, Butts said. I dont know if it was Martin Bayless or somebody else.

One guy was rolling on my knee and somebody was pulling me the other direction. Butts tore some scar tissue in his knee. And he was miffed that it occurred again while playing Kansas City. "It's the same guys who did it the first time, he said. You should be angry because to me its their tackling scheme Every time they tackle you, they try to roll you over in some sort of sense.

They give you a quick roll so they are going to hurt something I wouldn't say it was intentional, but it's the style of ball that they play. You can look at it and see that they play very intense But anytime you get nicked up playing a team, you are going to get a little angry Butts didn't say anything to the Chiefs defenders after the game. "I said enough to them when I was down on the ground I just told them my mind at the time It's not something you can write I told Bayless. 'What are you trying to do. break my (expletive) ankle9' I guess that is the ty pe of ball they play They didn't do it not only once, but they do it a lot of times If they roll you.

they are going to hurt you." The Chargers MVP Sunday could have been wearing a Chiefs uniform. Kansas City quarterback Dave Krieg had a horrid day. He kept the Chargers close with his inconsistent passing Krieg, ho came to the Chiefs from the Seahawks in the offseason, was 10 of 28 for 114 yards and two touchdowns He missed on eight of his 11 first-half attempts. I wasn't getting the ball to the guys that were open, Kreig said. Coach Marty Schottenheimer almost yanked Krieg.

I did," he said. "But I felt like hes the guy that got all the reps and hes the guy thats going to get the job done. I told David on the sideline, you've done it before and youre capable of doing it again. You dont have any choice. Youve got to do it." Krieg bounced back to complete all three of his passes for 42 yards in the Chiefs game-winning drive.
